]Lately the weather has been good; the freakish heat went away, so the boys have been spending a lot of time outside. Usually I will put them in the pen on a grassy spot outside my window and check on them every 10 minutes to see how they are getting on and bring them watermelon to keep cool if it’s particularly warm. Well the other day I went to check and saw Houdini was sitting a meter away from the pen, nibbling at the grass while Picasso sat inside. How he got out puzzled and worried me because I always make sure the pen is secure before leaving them out there. So you see, little Houdini living up to his name! Then yesterday same thing happened, only this time Houdini figured out how to get both of them out. And so they sat there next to the pen like it was nothing, nibbling at the grass. You can imagine how this worried me because all I could think of was what if they ran away and I couldn't find them, and what if Mau the cat came into the back yard. However, after watching the boys for a few minutes it was clear they had no intention of running away and just happily waddled and popcorned around, chased each other and ate grass. So seeing that they are so domesticated and have no intention of going far, my fiancé and I have started to take them out of the pen and let them run around on the grass. The boys love this of course and run around boinking and popcorning while we sit near by and watch them. Now and then they will run up to us and get pat pats.

In other news, Picasso and Houdini have completed their course of Baytril for their URI this week, the vet said 5-7 days, so I gave them seven just to be sure. At first I was really worried about giving them the antibiotic seeing as guinea kids are so tiny and delicate, but they have had not a single problem with it at all. They didn't end up getting diarrhea like I was worried they might, and reacted to it very well. Their temperatures have gone down and they seem so much happier now. I've also been using the Aloveen shampoo and conditioner the vet gave us to treat their fur after the mites, and it has made a huge difference! I recommend it to anyone here who has guinea pigs with irritated skin recovering from mites. As a treat for having to deal with vet visits and medicine, I bought them a big willow bridge to play on. Houdini loves to climb to the top and sit there nibbling on it!

Hi Mamma-Harlow! Your description of Houdini's magical escapes really made me giggle! It proves that piggies are really clever creatures who can outsmart a human
Maybe they managed to squeeze through the bars?
Anyway, they seem to be very happy piggies and I hope your sick little one is back to normal soon
