Ivermectin Injections for All!

It's been a pretty busy weekend here as yesterday Mr Darcy and I took the boys to the vet for their Ivermectin shots. Their last visit was around Easter so I was sorry to pack to boys in the cat carrier again and am hoping that there won't be a re-infestation. Funnily enough though, I get more stressed out about going to the vets than the boys do. For you see, for no apparent reason since the start of this year I developed this fear/anxiety over going to the doctors, and as it turns out this includes the vet. It's really embarrassing because the vet is really lovely and knows all about poogies, unlike a lot of vets I've heard about.
When the boys got their shots they shrieked like little banshees and then settled down and spent the rest of the day sleeping it off, sulking and picking at their food. Then this afternoon while I scrubbed and doused their hutches (their indoor hutch and outdoor hutch) with boiling vinegar and bleach, the boys grazed in the back yard.
This evening when I brought them in for dinner I was a little concerned as at first all they did was pick at their food (capsicum pieces, carrot, cucumber and cherry tomato with vitamin C powder rubbed on it, and a small handful of dry pig mix (hay and pellets). But after a while their appetite set in and I ended up also giving them cos lettuce, califlower leaves and another handful of dry food. Right now they seem their usual selves so all is good
It's funny though, because I always thought guinea pigs were really easy pets. I got my first guinea pig when I was 11, he was a beautiful crested Agouti called Puggles. I looked after him all by myself and made sure he was always healthy and happy because I am really obsessive when it comes to caring for animals and people. Basically, I wasn't one of those kids that got a pet, played with it and got bored. My point is though, Puggles never had any problems with parasites or anything health related. So after Puggles passed on last November I decided that while it upset me to walk past his empty hutch every day, I couldn't part with it. Then a few days before my 18th birthday this year, I saw baby Picasso in Pets Paradise and fell in love all over again. Having done more research I learned that it would be best to get a friend for Picasso. Because while I had Puggles all on his own, my friend lived next door and also had a boy piggie the same age as Puggles's so he was never really lonely. Then a month after getting Picasso Mr Darcy and I saw Houdini in Pets Paradise. I'd never seen a piggy with such bright blue eyes so to me he was one of a kind and the right age and size to be a playmate for Picasso. It took the boys a week to get used to each other and since then they cannot strand to be appart. However, soon after getting Houdini I learnt that he had mange mites which he passed on to Picasso right away. So even though I had been a guinea pig owner for seven years, I was still very naiive in the end...
