I had an awful day today. It didn;t start out awful though. It was cage clean out day as Mondays always are and I was enjoying that. I have been so busy with school and the apartment has become a heck of a pigsty. The guinea pig cage was waaay cleaner than the rest of the apartment lol.
So, I began to start cleaning up, and then my boyfriend mentioned to me how the nuissance snails are really overwhelming my big fish tank. He told me to use some medication called Had-A-Snail to kill them. It is copper based and I am always reluctant to add anything to the water. But, he kept bugging me about it so I just went ahead and put the drops in the water. The snails appeared to be affected by it right away, but about 5 minutes later, so were my fish. They hovered at the surface, and one of them even began to lay down on his side. I was freaking out. I was rushing to grab the hoses for draining and filling the tank, and being that we were in such a panic, lots of water ended up on the floor and all over us. We were trying to drain and re-fill the tank as fast as we could. I was so scared I was going to lose one of my precious fishies! (By the way, they are huge cichlids:crazy:)
Slowly the fish improve, but so did the snails! Grr! It was problably the most frustrating momentof my life. Nothing was accomplised.
Now that the fish were ok, I reluctantly went back to my housework. While washing dishes I accidentally knocked a glass over onto the floor and flung hot dishwater right into my eye. After I finished the dishes I decided to wait to finish cleaning tommorrow due to my unfortunate luck...who knows what else would have happened, haha!
I just had a snack, and now my lips are starting to swell up, ugh, I didnt know I had any food allergies!
....I just need to go to bed :sorry:

I am so happy to be going back home to Texas for spring break! I get to go and see all of my hoofed babies! I have missed my horses so much since moving to NYC for school, I was previously planning to have them shipped over to a stables in upstate, but I decided it would be much to stressful on them and I do not know the people who would be caring for them on a daily basis, thus, I do not trust them around my horses. They are safer in the hands of my family anyway :). I am also looking forward to meeting all of the new rescues my family has taken in! It will sure be a heck of a vacation!
I am nervous about leaving my animals here behind though...my guinea pigs will be taken care of by a friend and I have left the name a number of a couple of cavy vets 'just in case':guilty:. But I am sure they will be just fine. I have spent quite a bit of money on getting my many aquariums fitted with light timers and fancy automatic feeders but they will be monitored as well to make sure equipment is properly working...you can always count technology, things happen.
I will be taking my dog with me, he is going to have so much fun having the run of the ranch again for a little while.
The only bad side to this is in the country, there are hardly any vegan options. For sure no restaraunts, and very little at the store. I guess I will be eating veggie stir frys and salads for awhile :silly:. Its okay though, its totally worth it!
