I look on the board from time to time just reading to educate myself, or when I have some time on my hands. I find there are many people that truly love the guinea pigs. I wish I could find a few people like these to take the pigs that I have to find hhomes for. People get into very heated argumants here, but it makes me glad to know there are people out there that will "get" that heated about a topic that they feel passionate about(such as one that they think is harming a guinea pig).

I never met anyone that feels so strong about guinea pigs, I wish I had a few to take my pigs. Hoping one day some of these will be ansswering the ads for them. I would be able to relax knowing that they are loved and cared for, and have someone that will fight for what they think is right for them. Many people take them home and find it is a big job, and they no longer want them. Kids going to college and the parents don't want them any more. Moving and they don't want them( I can actually see this sometimes because it sometimes is necessary). But the people that let them sit in a cage and they don't play with them, don't have any fun toys, and don't have water or food at times. That is the kind of home I do not want but sems there aare many homes like this and I want to ttry to have them not end up in these types. I want a home where they are actually loved and number 1 on their owners list:love:

Yup, we love our pigs! I want to run a rescue or sanctuary one day, but my biggest problem would be finding people who care as much as I do. I don't think it would be commonplace to find prospective owners who felt the same way as people here. Even my parents think I'm a bit crazy with my piggers. They are old school and think the pigs would be fine in a hutch outdoors, but they don't say so. I looove this forum and it's affiliated sites. There are other forums that are good, but they often tend to be linked to, or tolerant of people who breed their animals. I live in the UK, and when I first joined I thought that the overpopulation problem here was much smaller, being confined to shelters run by the RSPCA, SSPCA etc. However, the more I look, the more shelters I find that are private, and the more apparent it becomes that they have to cope with much larger numbers than the big charities seem to. Good for you for rescuing and caraing so much about rehoming.

Where in PA are you?
I'm in northeastern PA, Near Scranton.
I inherited my piggie, Stewie.

I am going to compile rodent info on my site to help those with care of rodents.

There's nothing there right now, but I'm putting info in there about gerbils, rabbits, and piggies. I have experienced much with them, and would like to make it easy for those searching for information. Much will be borrowed (with permission) from other places, but just a helpful place with information in one place. It's all just to make life better for our beloved furry creatures.

I was even thinking of making some kind of "singles with piggies, gerbils, rabbits, etc" for those of us that are single, and enjoy the company of these creatures wanting to meet others with the same interests. Seems Match.com doesn't have a gerbil lovers forum. :) I looked.

best,

Dan in PA

I'm about an hour below scranton. Nice to know there's someone from the same state. I think your site ideas sound great. People can always use imformative sites, and the singles section.....sounds like a good idea!

There are several gp lovers in the Pittsburgh area. I'm not sure if any are members here but they do exist. They just last weekend had a huge pignic there-several people came over from Ohio-but most were from PA. They post mostly on pigloo.net though.

I think that is such a cute idea. :) Good luck with it.

A singles page would be such a cute idea! I'm constantly having to ask men I meet online "Why don't you have gerbils, guinea pigs, etc listed as a like on your profile?"

The girls and I come as a package deal, so men that don't like them... eh, not so much. It's always nice when I meet someone that takes to them, or better yet (and this hasn't happened yet) has them themselves!
