i really like all these cages with the fleecy/carpet kind of floor that people are posting pixs of but im just wondering how you clean ur guinea pig out it most be stained with urine surely? i dont know how i would be able to have that kind of floor without washing it all the time as im always scooping out wet parts of woodshavings from the corners everyday and dont guinea pigs prefer woodshavings anyway:?: tell me if im wrong, i only got my first guinea pig a month ago.

The benefits of fleece is that it wicks the moisture down to the layers underneath (towels, puppy pads, or a combo). This keeps the fleece dry.

Poop has to be cleaned daily to keep the cage tidy. I personally use a Dust Buster to do this.

Some GPs use a litterbox. Usually putting a litterbox filled with wood shavings under their hay helps keep the from urinating of the fleece as much as GP like to pee where they eat.

The fleece should be changed out 1-2 times a week.

I am using towels right now and I put some bedding almost like Carefresh where they tend to pee alot. Then about every 3-4 days I change the towels and put clean ones in their cage. Then I add more bedding and add some more newspaper to the bottom before I put the clean towels down. Hope I helped.

It also might be a good idea to put newspaper under all of that.

I'm a new cavy slave too! One month this week, and we got our second cavy from Cavy Spirit this weekend and built our massive cage...it's so wonderful to have learned about this site before we hunkered down hundreds of dollars for a bigger cage that wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

The fleece thing is a huge challenge for us newbies. Those who have it work for them don't realize that there are dozens of types of fleece, and some don't work at all, and in fact make it worse...

Here's a link to a post on the Cavy Madness Forum. (broken link removed)
This thread is a "sticky". It's a very long discussion about fleece and I learned a ton from reading it.

I recently went through a massive research and test plan on the whole fleece thing to figure out why everyone had such difference experiences. If you go to my gallery in the profile you'll see what I ended up with. I've explained it in great detail. It's the best thing since sliced bread!!

No more stinky messes...I've even gone more than a week now, and it still doesn't stink! The important thing is your cage has to be big enough, and you have to have either enough layers of fleece, or something under the fleece to allow it to dry quickly.

You will notice that Cavy Madness it's also a great forum site for us new cavy owner's. Be sure to check out the best cavy sites on the web, www.cavyspirit.com and www.guinealynx.com lots of important straightforward information there.

I'm going to post all of my research and results here on cavycages this week, with pictures.

I just have to figure out where I can host all the images. For some reason my yahoo account won't show up here..
