I wonder if baby diapers would work?

OK, this is just an idea, and I dont even know if it exsists. Currently I am using carefresh bedding, nice but expensive. I was wondering if they had a type of bedding made out of the same stuff as baby diapers (ya know that stuff is like SUPER absorbant)You could buy it in like giant sheets. I mean you could put that stuff on the bottom and then cover it with something like carefresh, and then you would only have to clean the cage 1 a week! MAX! I dunno that stuff is probably toxic, and they dont even make like sheets of it, but I was just thinking about it and wondering what you guys thought!

In the uk, pampas make absorbant pads (used to change a baby on when your out, or for using on a toddlers bed) There called care mats but I don't think there washable and don't know if they'd be safe if a pig chewed them. I read a thread recently about some simular but washable pads, I'm sure it was here

Re: I wonder if baby diapers would work?

I think you'll find a variety of reasons why this probaby wouldn't be safe. There are studies that have shown respiratory toxicity, asthmatic responses, etc. in mice just from the emissions of the (clean) diaper itself.

Then there are the considerations of the actual material doing the absorbing ... those diapers are super asbsorbant often because they contain a highly absorbant gelling agent, such as silica gel. Not something you'd want a small animal to ingest in even small quantities!

OMG, please don't try this. I don't even use baby diapers on my baby! I use cloth diapers.

That stuff in disposables is toxic, you wouldn't want your pigs eating it. It has been linked to toxic shock syndrome and a few other things as well.

Here is a link with lots of info. Do a search on the net and you will find out all kinds of thing the big disposable diaper companies dont want you to know!
