I am thinking about getting fleece bedding for my pigs, but I'm confused. Should you change the fleece and towels everyday? Or just the towels? When and what should you clean? What have been the results for you? Have you been pleased with the fleece, as well as your pigs? I use aspen now, and it's quite messy, so that also makes me want to switch to fleece. Does the washing of the fleece increase your water bill by a lot? Thanks in advance for your help. |

You should definetly switch to fleece! My rabbits are litter trained, so I don't use it, but I know all about it. You don't need to switch the fleece everyday. You don't need to change the towels everyday either, but how ofter you have to switch the towels depends on how thick they are, how absorbent they are, how many layers they use, and how many pigs you have. You can just change them when they start to stink. I hear that a lot of people use two layers of moderately thick towels, and sometimes a layer of newpaper underneath. You may have to just change the top layer of towels sometimes, and the seecond layer once a week. Some people get two 'fleeces' so that when they do wash it, they can put the other in. But, you won't have to wash it too often. The fleece wicks the pee under to the towels, so your piggers feet won't get wet and gross. You will still need to pick up the poops though. Hope I helped! |

Yeah, you should definetly get two sets of towels, maybe even three if you want to save money because you wouldn't have to wash them as often. It's up to you if you get two sets of fleece. If you think your pigs can have floor time for the 30 minutes while you wash the fleece, then you only need to get one, its just easier for some people to get 2 sets, I guess. |

I just switched to fleece. A hand held vacumm has become a time saver. Makes it quick to clean the cage and gets into corners. |

How often you need to change also depends on the size of your cage. I've had 2 pigs in a 2x6 and only needed to change once a week. When I added the third pig, I had to change about once every 5 - 6 days. What is the size of your cage and how many pigs do you have? |

How often you have to change also depend on how messy your pigs are. I only have to change the girls and Leonidas' 2x5 once a week. I have an old school folded up very absorbent mattress pad under, I'm hoping to come across another sometime because it's WAY better than towels! I have enough fleece to switch out every time, but not enough understuff. I just give the pigs floortime while things are washing and drying. |

How much of a mess do they make? Do they like to spill their water bottle? You may want to put some extra layers under that if so. Also, if they have favorite places to pee, sleep, or eat, you may want to put more towels under that. I fold my mattress pad so that there's two layers over the whole cage, but 4 layers underneath the hayrack hidey and in the kitchen/towel tent area. |
