Pigs eating Carefresh?

I have Carefresh in my pigs potty. Every morning I clean the potty and put clean Carefresh in it. But by the time I get home from school there does be loads of Carefresh gone from the potty. I think they are eating it.
If they are eating it would it be harmful for them?
And are the wooden chew blocks bad for guinea pigs to chew on? Because I have two chew blocks in their cage now.
I am hopefully getting two 6 month old sows off my Auntie because she doesn't have the time for them any more. If I am getting them I will have them tomorrow! I can't wait!

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

If they are eating large amounts, yes it can be harmful as it can cause an intestinal blockage.

What kind of wood?

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

Are you giving them unlimited hay 24 hours a day?

I never saw the point of the wooden chew blocks but my boys barely chew at at all. Chewing is typically out of boredom or lack of hay as I understand.

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

Yes they have unlimited hay and I got the chew blocks in Pet Co. ( that was before I stoped going to petshops ) and they have painted guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits on them. I think the paint is bad for them, I don't know. They chew on them a bit.
It's not LOADS of Carefresh that they are eating but there does be a little hole in the middle when I come back from school and I do fill the potty right up in the mornings.

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

You change it every day. Wow you must spend heeps of money on it. I change every 3-4 day (depending on pees and poops). I'm using a large square plant tray and it takes up to 4 hand fulls of carefresh,i press it down flat .

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

If you have a separated bathroom area, they could just be kicking the Carefresh out as they jump into and out of the area.

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

Are you sure they are eating it?

If so, the easiest thing might be to just switch to a different bedding.

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

No they don't kick it out.
I'm not sure if they are eating it maybe they just push it all into one corner.
What about the chew blocks?

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

I would take out the chew blocks since they have paint on them.

I doubt your pigs are eating the Carefresh.

Just make sure you feed unlimited high quality hay.

Re: Pigs eating Carefresh?

They pee and poop in it a lot so I need to change it once a day.
