Hi! I just wanted to know how many layers of fleece and towels you should put. |

Only 1 layer of fleece and 2-3 layers of towels, or more towels as needed. |

I use 2 layers of towels but put an extra layer in the corners where the pigs sleep and then a layer of fleece. |

I put individual folded towels or bath mats on either end of my 2 x 5 grid cage and one in the middle, big fleece over them. That way I can flip up the fleece and replace the end towels with fresh mid-week. My piggies pee at either end only, never in the middle. I have also put an extra towel with a cut piece of fleece on it on top of the "big" fleece at either end. That way I can just whip up that layer and voila! I have the fresh bottom fleece/towel layer intact and fresh. Place small pieces of fleece over old dish towels or wash cloths under the hideys to make it easy to tidy up those spots, too. |

I'm glad you said this, because I've seen other people on the forum say it, but didn't have a chance to ask. Do you use the bath mats that have the rubber bottom? Or bath mats that are similar to very thick towels with no rubber on the bottom? |

No rubber on them. Just the heavy ones that you mention, like towels but for standing on after your bath. They are just the perfect size, heavy and easy to put down without folding, etc. |

Before I got my pigs I was in a Family Dollar and they had these thick woven rugs and they were fairly large for $5 a piece. I wanted to get them just to use around the house, but I didn't. Now that you mentioned the bath mats, I wonder if those rugs would work under fleece? They're cotton, so I think they might. It's so hard to find the bath mats you're describing reasonably priced. I've seen them at JC Penney, but they usually cost more than the plush rubber backed mats. |

But, any cotton item will work under the fleece. Right now I have a knit type all cotton sundress and a man's polo shirt as well as a couple of all cotton table cloths that I use when the mats are in the wash. Be creative !! |

My bottom layer is hospital pads that I got through the ODC (2 pack for $4). It keeps the pee from getting on the coroplast, because it has that special backing on it. Then I usually have 2 to 3 layers of towels, folded in two. And finally the fleece. It seems to work well. |
