My mom went and bought some hay for Cyndi from her feed store where she lives ( we don't have any local, they have to order it in) and, she got 2 40 oz bags of oxbow timothy hay, and she asked if Cyndi needed bedding... I had her on fleece but since we have coin-op machines in these apartments it's hard to wash them everyday- so, I said yeah, because I prefer actual bedding, before- we had Pine bedding =-( yes I know, I know.. it irritated her skin we threw it out, and my mom bought us GEM biodegradable white wood shavings it says pine/cedar free.... So I was wondering even though aspen is the BEST- is white wood at least ok??? Thank you |

If the wood has no odor, it will be fine. It's the oils that fragrant woods give off that do the damage to our little guys. If you want to be extra careful, you can air the new bedding out outside for a day or two. You can put it in a large bin, fluff it to unpack it and turn it, like compost, to expose as much as possible to fresh air. |

White Shavings Says no phenols, but they add in Douglas Fir for a scent. I don't know how that would effect your guinea pigs. |

I'll put it in the bin that would be a good idea- yeah it smells like saw dust but she doesn't seem to be too bothered by it she's too busy with her hay and toys- with the pine she freaked out and bit and drew blood so.. I hope it will be okay- thats a great idea- we'll do the bin thank you |
