Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
After scouting out this board for quite some time it's become obvious that fleece is the new black! Just the thought of never having to sweep up wood shavings again has brought metaphorical tears of joy to my eyes! However - I do have some questions before I dash out tomorrow, intent on finding as much fleece as possible. 1) The whole washing/drying thing before use. Realistically how few washes could I get away with? Not having access to a tumble dryer means that it will take a bit longer to get it ready - thus keeping my poor piggies on the shavings. 2) Layers - there seems to be massive debate about this - how many layers, and what the layers should consist of etc. So, if I was to use a layer of fleece and two of towels, would this be ok? 3) My piggies are not at all potty trained. They go anywhere and everywhere, especially when they're in their houses and it becomes a free for all toilet party! I've tried my hardest, but they just couldn't care less about where they go and what they do there. This means there'll be a pretty even spread of poo and urine - so how often should I look to change the bedding? Thanks in advance Fil x |

Have you read the Fleece Project sticky thread at the top of this forum? I believe it will answer your questions. |

Do at least three wash/dry cycles. Air drying is fine. Fleece dries quickly. Use only one layer of fleece--more is not good. You can use towels, mattress pads, or puppy pads for underbedding. You need at least one layer. If you have a bigger cage and your pigs are litter trained, that may be enough. If it smells quickly, add more layers underneath the fleece. How often you change the fleece depends on how many pigs you have, if they're litter trained, how big your cage is, and how many underbedding layers you have. Once a week is sufficient for most people. You might find that once your pigs have fleece, they start using a litter box. Put it in the corner they use most often. Right now they have no way of differentiating a litter box from the rest of the cage. |
