My next test is to sew the fleece to the top of one of the pads to make it easier to make their beds (my daughter calls it making their beds ) But want to buy new stuff to do this...I am not sure about the pigs, but I am sure getting tired of the pattern i have now.

A bonus with not sewing everything together is that is washes much better in the machine. I have a set i made with towels and it is all sewed together and it is quite large and thumps around the machine. The other set is spread more easily in the machine and i think gets a better wash.
I set up a "kitchen" area today. It is working very nicely because all of the food and hay is confined to one area, leaving the other areas clean. Of course there is poop, but I scoop those up every few hours.

Re: Accetable towel substitutes for long-term use?

I only have a 2x3 w/ 1x2 upper loft. I look around at Goodwill a couple times a week for goodies. They always have fleece blankets that are already broken in for the wicking. I found a 100% cotton crib mattress cover that's very plush and quilted for $4.00. I tried it on for size tonight when I changed out my fleece and it was a perfect fit for the main level. Eventually I will make the beadspreads as you are and will definently use these. I have other pads that are not as plush from when my boys were little that I will use as the bottom layer. Our crib mattress and sheets have been passed on to our senior dog for a bed and now the piggies are getting the pads! I knew I hung onto this stuff for a reason!
