Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Hi, Maple just moved to her C&C cage (2x3, will get another piggy... hopefully...) and currently she is in towels as her bedding. My dad would not use fleece as bedding because she is potty trained already and think the "wicking" method is useless, and poos are cleaned better on towels. I have already showed him the Fleece Study Project but still instis on towels. Please list some pros of fleece so I can show him the pros. Thank You |

It's prettier than just towels, softer, and the piggies love it. |

It's soo much cheaper!! You only buy 2 sets of fleece and your good for a long time!! If you are maybe getting a second pig it will be even cheaper! You wont have to change bedding material as often. It smells a lot less than just towels because it goes through to the towels. Pigs love it. I often catch Penny just layin' around on the fleece. Towels aren't always as comfortable either!! Looks great. Although like you said this might not win your dad over. |

The fleece keeps them dry. Towels alone could make your piggie sit in urine which could cause health problems. There are many threads about the pros and cons of fleece, just do a search. |

I find it much easier to sweep fleece as opposed to towels. It works temporarily, but it becomes a nightmare in the long run. Everything sticks to the towels and makes it very difficult to get clean before throwing in the washing machine. |

Your piggy now might be potty trained but that doesn't mean your new one will be. Guinea pigs doesn't always learn and fleece will absorb moisture better than towels. That way your piggies aren't sitting on wet bedding. |

My dad does not want another guinea pig. He thinks it will be more dirtier and will cost more money and will be more work. |

it will be more work, but not that much. and if using fleece there will be no added expenses as if you would use towels/wood chips. because towels get dirtier quicker then fleece and smells more easily. |

I forgot to add If you really do want another one. And your parents say no. make a booklet about how one is better then two and how they benefit from each other. How much happier they will live together. and so on. wheekers01 just made a booklet to give to her parents and you could probably get ideas off of her |

Your piggy's nails could get caught in loose cloth loops on towels, which can cause injury. It also gives her the potential for easier chewing on the towels, which can also cause health problems if she ingests too much towel (and the loops could become loose and conceivably get stuck on her teeth if she's chewing on them...). A flattened piece of fleece is less likely to be chewed on much. Fleece can cost next to nothing if you are able to find a large section of it in the remnants bin at a fabric store or other shop that may have one (like large Wal-Marts). Even if she is potty trained, accidents happen, and she could end up sitting in a puddle of her own piddle which can cause health issues. Health issues equal vet bills. A piece of fleece for the cage, $2-15 on the high side. Vet bills? Much more. Even if you only get one set and put Maple out for floortime while you wash... so much cheaper... |

Hi Maple. What if you offered to pay for it yourself. You could tell your dad you will do jobs around the house. Wash the car, iron,do the dishes and so on. At least then you could save up and pay for the fleece . |

Well done. Don't forget to wash it a few times before you use it. |
