Blankets and possible suffocation

Currently I have two guinea pigs, who have a 2x3 grid cage and are using a wooden house, pigaloo, and large PVC tunnel as their homes. I put fresh bedding in their wooden house and pigaloo daily for them to lay on. While I was spot cleaning their cage today and replacing their bedding(small hand towles) I noticed that one of my guinea pigs was missing... I have a top to the cage and was wondering how it possibly could have gotten out. I finally found the missing guinea pig in the wooden house underneath/between the bedding. Needless to say I was worried and was relieved when the guinea pig was fine (she is running around atm with her cage mate and eating). I think I solved the problem by placing the edges of the bedding so the wooden house in OVER all the edges of the bedding.

I noticed in a lot of pictures that people using bedding in their guinea pigs homes, but has anyone ever had this problem (yes I did a forum search). I guess I could sew the edges of the bedding so that it becomes one layer or would it be better to cut the bedding down to size.

Re: Blankets and possible suffocation

Hi I also used to have this problem with my piggies well mostly with the boys that liked to hide under the fleece. I think it is because it is so hot that they try to cool down. So what I did was I placed a brick one of each side of the gap so they couldnt lift it. Works just fine and the piggies use the bricks to cool down.
