Question Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

What's the difference in Colored and non-colored bedding?

Same price, same weight, but different colors. I was just wondering if it is dangerous for guinea pigs.

Re: Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

I use colored bedding,
it's non toxic and completely safe. The difference between natural and colored is that the colored have longer fibers.

Re: Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

I was told that the colored has baking soda in it so it helps keep the smell down. I don't know how true that is though.

I don't know about baking soda in the colored carefresh but it does have dyes.

Re: Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

I avoid anything that has color added to it....anything with color in my opinion contains dyes and I don't need my pigs laying or rustling through it. Not worth the risk of their health. In my opinion, Colored Carefresh does nothing positive for the pigs.

Re: Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

I found it to be the same as the regular. If there is any difference in the fibers, I didn't notice. I like Carefresh Ultra (the white) the best. It's not as dusty and doesn't smell as fast.

Re: Carefresh Colors Pet Bedding

I've tried carefresh, yesterdays news, fleece and shavings. I found I prefer the shavings the best, especially now that we use it in composting. At the tractor supply store near me, a bag of Aspen shavings, goes for 9.99 compared to Petsmart at 12.99 for 2000 cubic ft. However, kilned dried shavings is 5.79 per 3000 cubic ft at the tractor store. I use the kilned dried as the bottom layer and cover with a layer of Aspen. I found it lasts me much longer.
