I think I might go to fleece for my C&C cage but first I have to potty train them. Most likely, they will only go pee in their litter box. But can I sweep up the poops daily, take the Guinea Pigs out for playtime and then spray the fleece with pet-safe freebreeze and let that dry for 30-60 minutes? |

You should not use Frebreeze in or around the pigs. Pigs will only potty train if they have the inclination to do so. So don't be surprised if your pigs don't learn how to use a litter box. |

So if they only learned to go pee in the litter boxes and poop on the fleece, what can I do to keep it smelling fresh without removing the fleece from the cage? Because the cage size I want to build, bedding is going to get really expensive. 1 large bag of bedding would only cover the bottom of the cage. |

Care for and odor from a cage with properly prepared fleece is minimal. A good absorbent layer under the fleece (not paper, as it doesn't absorb well and stinks fast) will deal with the urine and scoopin' poop takes care of the rest. If you feel that you must spray something, try a very dilute solution of white vinegar and water, let dry and air out before replacing pigs in the cage. Vinegar neutralizes urine and, after a little while, has no odor of its own. |

Thanks Toadies. My Mom does that to clean the bathtub sometime. So she'll probably let me do that. |

You can put a litter box in the cage with bedding (I use carefresh) and then put hay on top of it. They will spend a good deal of time in there munching away, so incidentally, they will end up going to the bathroom there. You have to change the litter box frequently, but it helps with smell. As long as you are proactive about cleaning, you shouldn't really have much odor other than the smell of hay. I believe that the fleece bedding (when properly maintained) is much less smelly than traditional bedding. |

I bought one of those corner litter boxes and she goes there a lot. She still poops on the fleece but if you sweep at least once a day it helps a ton! I also have a plastic box with hay so she will sit/lay in there and munch and consequently poo in there too. I clean that box every 4 days or so. They need to be motivated to using a litter box, so some pigs will never ever learn. |
