Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post?
Question can they be allergic?

me and my sister got 2 guinea pigs in late april. nutmeg and ivory. we started using the same bedding that they were using at the store, and in june nutmeg died. she had been sneezing a lot so we changed the bedding to a "pet safe" pine shavings. then we slowly changed her food to "Sun naturals" because it was a better quality brand. but nothing worked. now Pepper(new piggy) is starting to sneeze to and im afraid she might be getting the same kind of infection nutmeg had. YES we change their water daily, and remove waste from their cage. now we have a corn based bedding because idk what to try anymore! could it be the dust from the bedding?

Re: can they be allergic?

The problem is not the bedding, the problem is that your guinea pig most likely died from an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and your other pig probably has one too. You need to take your pig to a cavy savvy vet and get her treated or she may die too. Petstore pigs are often ill and since guinea pigs hide illness well, you probably bought sick pigs.

The bedding you currently have them on is not safe. Pine has to be kiln dried.

Read http://www.guinealynx.info/uri.html and http://www.guinealynx.info/healthycavy.html

Corn cob bedding is not safe. You need carefresh or kiln dried shavings or fleece/towels. Most pet stores sell harmful products including bad bedding like cedar.

SunNaturals is not a good feed either. You need oxbow or kleenmama. http://www.guinealynx.info/diet.html

Are you feeding hay and veggies? If you are not feeding a good diet, they will get scurvy and their immune systems will be weaker.
