Question LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

My b/f just went out to get bedding and he came back with "LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter" It says it can be used for guinea pigs but I always read that cedar is bad for them. What should I do? Have any of you used it and is it safe?

Re: LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

Cedar is not acceptable bedding for guinea pigs, regardless of what the package might say.

It is not safe.

Re: LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

This Cedar Bedding and Litter by L/M Animal Farms is ideal for rabbits, guinea pigs, or ferrets. This cedar bedding naturally repels fleas and other insects, and is sanitary for any small or medium sized pet. Made from 100% aromatic cedar wood shavings with natural oils, this cedar bedding and litter can also be used as a fragrant and sanitary bed filler for dog or cat beds.

Keep your pet safe, clean, and fresh smelling with L/M Animal Farms' natural, mountain fresh cedar bedding.

The oil is bad for all small animals.

Re: LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

I just had him take it back. We're thinking of trying fleece or cotton towels.

If you use fleece you'd have to prep the fleece before using it. Look at the sticky in the bedding forum called The Fleece Project. It has a ton of information on it.

Anything made by LM/Hartz is bad.

You need both towels and fleece. You have to put something absorbent under the fleece or it won't work.

Re: LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

Thank you all for your help. My b/f thinks we should petition Hartz to get them to stop making cedar bedding I doubt it would actually work though. -.- What I'm the most confused about is if it's know to cause problems why do they still state it's for guinea pigs?

Re: LM Animal Farms Cedar Bedding & Litter

So more people will buy it. The more people that buy their products, the more money they make. It all comes down to money.
