Question yellow piggie!

I have never had any problems until Just recently.

My piggies have a new found obsession in laying in their own urine. This is something new to me, and I feel like I'm having to wash all the "yellow" off of them! and not to mention the smell! I do two cage cleanings a day and now it's getting out of hand and I can only imagine what kind of stuff that it's happening to their skin. I did just change their bedding I have a rug laid down, I can't use fleece because of the laundry costs, and I have them in a multi level cage-Like a Dog cage with some modifications. I have a litter box but I have found that they do not use it when I had them litter box trained.

I got to thinking that I could lay some puppy pad down under the rugs and maybe that would help, I can't say that it would work our not.

I'd like to hear some opinoins.

Re: yellow piggie!

You're using a rug as bedding?

If your cage is too small, they won't have much room to move around and may be bored.

How do you clean the rug if you cannot do laundry? I imagine that rugs would be harder to clean than fleece. I use coin laundry too and I still prefer fleece over litter bedding.

I've used litter box before and my pigs would use them sometimes and would just go right next to them most of the time, so I stopped using it. Now my cage is 100% fleece. I sewed a small fleece pillow case for them. It's made of 30 inch square baby blanket folded in third and sewn on the sides. I tuck an incontinence bed pad inside and toss these in the corners and under hideys where they mostly do their business. It's been working great. I flip them over after the first day and replace them every two days. This is the incontinence pads I use. Re: yellow piggie!

Every week i take the rugs down to my parents house and I use soap and hose it off and then let it air dry, or I'll take it to the drive threw car wash and power wash it..

today i've changed some things to maybe help them out, I have two fleece baby reciving blankets that My fiance's grandma had given me a while back with puppy pads under them. they are light colored so if there are any problems i would see something right away. so I am hoping that these work I have had problems using pads before along with the fleece, My boys have an obsession with chewing the fleece and eating the puppy pads.. But I figured I'd give it one more shot and then go from there

thanks for the help

That's very interesting. I would imagine drive through car wash would cost more than doing the laundry?

If you have chewing problem, try sewing the fleece pillow case. I did that and they can't get to the pads inside.
