Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Here's a tip that I thought I should put out: If you are getting another Guinea pig, or have had one and are introducing the new one to the older one, and you put them in the same(large) cage then before you do, do a huge clean through. Clean everything that might have a scent on it. Do not use lysol or any other cleaning products like that. try using vinger or bleach mixed with water. it is not harmful to Guinea Pigs and Guinea Pigs do not like the smell of vinegar and bleach so they don't smell their scent on it. Then you have no problems with fighting. |

Bleach is not good. Everyone already knows to clean the whole cage when introducing a new pig (and moving things around so it looks different), not to mention it should be on neutral territory, like in the living room on the couch or somewhere else. Pretty much everyone uses 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water to clean the cage. Just because you clean the whole cage does not mean you won't have problems with fighting. |

GPlover is right, no bleach, and it still doesn't guarantee no fighting. I know you mentioned before you were trying to introduce them. You could tried to do a buddy bath. Your basically just bathing them together at the same time. There are many people on here that could tell you ways to bath them and what to use! |

No, Clorox is bleach. It's a brand that makes it. I don't think amonia is good either. I'd say any chemical with harsh, strong smells that you need to wear gloves with is out of the question. When I first moved out (I was 19), I cleaned my apartment by myself one day and I was using bleach. I didnt think I needed to wear goves because I never did when I was cleaning. I was washing down the walls and after a while I got bad chemical burns on my hands. When I clean anything, I only use environmentally friend products. Mind you, I have a wood pen for my piggies so I don't use cleaning poducts on it, it's more just changing everything and refilling. I think a lot of people use vinegar, being as it has high naturally high acid levels in it so it does the job. Dilute a bit with water and scrub scrub scrub! |

They make enivormentally friendly Clorox, I might have to look it up.....sometimes they don't smell that bad.......That sunseed bed that I was talking about actually keeps it from smelling. I have a poop-machine and she's gone to the bathroom alot since yesterday and I haven't smelled nothing. not one stink! |

Why not just use 50/50 mix of water and vinagar. It's safe and effective. Most other cleaners are harmful. It's best not to intro in a previosuly used cage. You should do it on nuetral ground. |

I meant that I use the wipes and spray and stuff, I mean the bleach isn't environmentally friendly. I would never use them on my cage though. I dont use anything on it because it's wood with a plastic lining that gets thrown out with we clean it. The plastic is recycled. |
