I happen to have some small dog beds around that I really don't use for my dogs anymore (they don't find them cushy enough) that look like these, only in stars and stripes print:
PetEdge: Slumber Pet Sherpa Crate Beds
The bottom layer of the bed is a quilted, thick cotton, so would be fairly absorbent. The fluffy fleecey stars and stripes pattern is polyester, so I'm assuming it will wick.
I wanted to try to go no-litter on the fleece bedding for 2 reasons: it really is messy when it gets on the fleece and unless you go with pine, really, it is pretty expensive. I'm allergic to pine, so using shavings is out, as is the pine pellets of any type (plus it sticks like crazy to the fleece!)
I went one day/night with no litterbox whatsoever, and discovered it got really quite wet in the hay area. This morning, I put down one of the dog beds in that area and since it has nice round sides, it helps keep the poos and hay confined to that little rectangle. I think I may be able to make this work!
The pigs were busy checking out the beds (should call 'em hay mats!) and popcorning around.
