Fleece and No Litter Boxes

Does anyone just use fleece and no litter boxes?

It really makes the cages seem so roomy w/out litter boxes in.
I decided to try this week without boxes and see how it goes.
What's your guys' experiences?

This would also save on the cost and lugging of litter...

Re: Fleece and No Litter Boxes

I just use fleece. My little guys informed me early on that they would poop where they pleased and showed me by sleeping in the litter boxes. It's not so bad with fleece as clean up is a swift sweep or vac once a day. I highly recommend a not-so-strong hand vac for the chore (as was suggested by several other members on the site). With a good absorbing layer underneath, the urine is wicked away and dries quickly, therefore not a problem.

Re: Fleece and No Litter Boxes

I have before. My guys seem to prefer it with the litter boxes though, because it makes the hay more accessible and easier to play and sleep in. Its just more of a mess for me...

Re: Fleece and No Litter Boxes

I use fleece and no litter box. I have 2 piggies. They like it better than when I was using the carefresh in the kitchen area. The carefresh was too dusty for Precious and she got sick so I had to take her to the vet. I've been using fleece with folded towels underneath it in the kitchen area and my piggies love it. I just scoop out the poos or use a hand vac to clean it out. It doesn't get as messy as the wet carefresh either.

Re: Fleece and No Litter Boxes

When I switched my pig to fleece, he ignored the litter boxes and started going in the same fleece/towel corner all the time. So I put another litterbox filled with aspen chips there. He doesn't seem to mind at all. I wouldn't have bothered, but with him constantly soiling that corner, it got smelly rather quickly. I'd say forgo the litterboxes if you and your pigs don't mind.
