Anyone try to make their own carefresh?

I read somewhere that someone made their own carefresh. I was wondering if anyone has done and if they recommend it how is it done?

Re: Anyone try to make their own carefresh?

Here's the sites I've found.
However, you don't want newspaper that has petroleum in its ink.
So far, of the 12 newspapers I've contacted in my state, only 3 responded and only 2 were able to find out for me. Petroleum in both black inks, but soy based in the colored inks.
I can't use my newspaper because of the petroleum in the ink and since petroleum is non-soluble, I'm out of luck.

What a great idea! My family is all the time getting free papers that we don't know what to do with; I think I'll give this a try and mix it with my pine shavings. Thanks for the links!

Re: Anyone try to make their own carefresh?

I did. I had a lot of shredded documents and went about washing and breaking up all that paper.

It was a HUGE amount of paper and in the end, only enough finished bedding to fill a small corner LOL. It was also very messy to clean up.

Not something I'll do again, but it was worth a try!

I tried to make it, but it just didn't end up right...I must've done something wrong.
Then again I don't know what carefresh looks like, so I can't be 100% sure if I totally messed up or not...
