Right now I use towels (3 layers) covered by a mattress pad and a layer of fleece. I have to change the cage 2Xs a week - would an extra layer of fleece make any difference in odor or not? I would love to get it to one day a week, but I can't see that happening. |

I would guess if you used two layers of fleece it wouldn't actually wick the urine down as well as just one layer does, which might make the odor worse instead of better. Do you vacuum the fleece for poos and hay daily? Do you pull out any hay they may have pulled out of a hay rack and peed or pood on? I have nine cages now (2x5s and 2x6s) and use one layer of fleece but they all have to be spot cleaned and vacuumed daily. I use several layers of mattress pads and towels or blankets underneath the fleece (3-4" generally) and there's not an odor problem usually until the day or so before I clean the cages. I only do it one day a week (Sunday). Recently, I've gotten an air purifier (this one: http://www.honeywellcentral.com/prod...iracaire+18155) and an exhaust type window fan that sucks out the stale air from and they REALLY helps to keep odors at a minimum in my "pig room." Maybe one or the other might be worth a try for you? |

You can also try placing a litter box in the most frequently used corner of the cage. Mine is with their hay and under the water bottle. |

I do sweep poops up every morning after they eat. I am interested in a kitchen area, but not sure what to put in there yet. |

I use plain dishpans filled with CareFresh. I put the hay bin and their water bottles there. |

I use fleece and mattress pads. In the beginning, I used 2 layers of fleece but I think the fleece wicks better with one layer as opposed to two. I have a fleece side and kitchen area. In the kitchen area, I use carefresh and I use fleece on the other side of the cage I put the water bottle, food bowls, pellet bowls and hay all in the kitchen area. Still, my piggies poop everywhere |
