I am not too sure if I am using fleece properly?

Before, I used to use newspaper under my fleeces. However, I stopped using them after they would stick to the fleece after the piggies urinated on it.

I then once tried aspen, but although it was shakable, it was a pain to remove them all off. I haven't considered any paper-based ones like Carefresh or Yesterday's news, its kind of expensive. I also don't want ot use shavings or other similar 'loose' beddings, since I don't want to clean up the mess when they kick it up.

So now ive been having the pigs on bare fleeces, just 1 layer of fleece without anything under. Is that incorrect?

If I need anything under it, I would by far prefer something I could toss into the washing machine after I shake it down. I wouldn't want something that would run out, like puppy pads or newspaper, since the price would build up eventually. I'm the rechargeable batteries type of person, not the alkaline single use person. Would towels work? What about normal blankets? Is that unsanitary?

Re: I am not too sure if I am using fleece properly?

I have a combination 2x4 C&C for my piggy. Part Fleece, and part bedding. As long as I maintain and clean her areas often, she tends not to urinate on the fleece parts. I keep a potty in the corner, potty under her hidey home, and her entire kitchen is a potty. Although, I am contemplating slowly removing her hidey home bedding. You could try putting a corner potty or a pan with bedding in it where your piggy goes the most. I just shake my fleece out on the patio if it spills over.

Re: I am not too sure if I am using fleece properly?

In order for fleece to work properly, it has to have something absorbent underneath it. You can use washable puppy pads, crib liners, mattress pads, towels, etc. It won't work by itself because the way fleece works is it wicks the moisture down to whatever is underneath it and leaves the fleece dry. If you have nothing under, then it can't do that so your defeating the purpose of the fleece.

Re: I am not too sure if I am using fleece properly?

I use two layers of towels underneath my fleece. On cleaning day I fold it all up take it out, shake the hay off and toss it all into the wash. Wipe the coroplast down with vinegar/water and put in fresh towels and fleece. Very easy clean up.
