Cage Bedding

I'm a college student so I don't have much to spend on the fancy CareFresh bedding, but I still want my future guinea pig to have an amazing life. I see people who use towels or fleece and have a little "litterbox" with bedding to the side. Is this alright to use?

Re: Cage Bedding

It is perfectly fine to be used. And in actuality many find it better then shavings. Of course everything has its own good and bad things.

Here is a link to all the info you should need about using fleece, Fleece. Just read up on this and you'll be set.

Re: Cage Bedding

It's great that your going research before you get a guinea pig. If you haven't already, please read up on the many reasons why 2 pigs are better than one. Also look through all of the cage photo galleries on this site to get ideas and look at what others are doing for bedding.
I use 2 layers of cotton mattress pads with 1 layer of fleece on top. I've tried using the towels under the fleece but it was a mess. The towels get very wet and heavy and started to smell bad after a day or two. Look through the bedding threads and you'll find more info on the mattress pads. Many of us use them here.
Feel free to ask more questions!

Re: Cage Bedding

After trying shavings, such a mess, I opted for a clean fluffly towel each day, in a pinch, it can go 2 days. When I let them out for thier meal and exercise, I just roll up the towel, put in a clean one and return their things. You can had wash the towel or put it in with wash. It's cheaper then store bout materials, soft, supplies tummels and burroring, but mainly is so easy to clean up! I was going to take my old towels to the animal shelter and now I am able to use them.

Re: Cage Bedding

can anyone help me fine a better source for bedding instead of sani-chips the lady that I adopted my girls from recomended sani-chips, but just I just don't like it, My piggies are making a mess and when they run around in their cage they get chips all in their hair, I head of a bedding material called cell-sorb plus is it good and less messy and if the sani-chips are better how much should be in the cage I may not be putting enough in their cage---HELP
