I am new to pig keeping and I LOVE my fleece/towels/newspaper bedding. I had never heard of doing this but read it somewhere and decided to give it a go instead of the more traditional beddings. It is colorful/easy to care for/economical. Yes, definitely fleece IS the way to GO if you don't mind laundering once or twice a week. I highly recommend anyone try it. |

Awesome article! I have had an easy time with fleece... but most importantly, my pigs love it! I'll have to pick up some more (with prettier colors) this week. |

Thank god I found this site BEFORE I got my piggies. There was so much things I was going to do WRONG. Now that I found this site Ive written down so many pointers and I'm ordering my c&c cage 2x4 for my new piggies. I'm also buying the fleece this weekend perhaps. |

Fleece rocks. I started with it in her small cage before I made a C&C 2x5. Now I just need some of that good plastic!! |

Wow, I'm so glad I found this forum, I have been using fleece in my GP cage since becoming a new piggie owner a week ago! NO wonder it was "soggy" when they pee on it!!! Thanks for the post. |

Okay, I posted the math in another thread, and with a minimum of sewing experience, a modicum of perfectionism, and a LOT of Cavy Spoiling Love, I have gone from fabric to fleece liner in one hour. The cavy bedspreads are lovely and if you have the money to do it, I highly recommend them. I'm a bit strapped, so I got enough to do two fleeces and towels for $40 from Wal-mart. Their fleece only required two washes and wicks like a dream. The math once more. Measure the inside dimensions of your cage (x by y) and the height of your walls (h). I doubled the height to be sure it could not be pulled up: x + 4h by y + 4h. Then measure a square on each corner equal to 2h by 2h. Put the cut corners together and sew. I opened the seams and sewed them again just for a lovely finished look. My top floor was more complex and open on one side, but I won't bore you with that unless someone asks. Now the liner is finished, and I get to clear out the last of the nasty bedding (I'd hate to wallow in that) for the last time! And I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for all of their wonderful work and suggestions, I couldn't have done it, and would not have even KNOWN about the ease and wonder of fleece. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 My family and I have been gathering tons of information ont the best things for guinea pigs. We have adopted two girlies and the should be arriving on the 26th. I read every single post on this thread and have a few questions of my own: 1.We just bought our fleece and we washed and dryed it 5 times. I was wondering what exactly does the fleece look and feel like after its been piddled upon by a lil pig. 2. Would two layers of fleece followed by 2 layers of towels be sufficent in doing its job and also cutting down on odor? OR Should I add a layer of microfiber towel in there somewhere? |

1. There will be a small puddle at first before the liquid is wicked away. Then it will look and feel as it normally does. 2. You should only use one layer of fleece, not two. Two will not be able to wick the moisture away properly. Two layers of towels should be fine as long as your cage is an appropriate size. Start with two, and if you need another layer, add another layer. |

Try the towels first and see how it goes. The bigger the better for cage sizes. |

Ok I try it out. The 3.5 by 2 was the biggest we could afford to go so... yeah |

Shamwow's have to be wet to work well. For our pigs, a single layer of fleece wicks in about 4 seconds to two layers of towels below. We replace about twice a week. |

Hi, I'm really sorry that this post is not directly related to this site (in reference to the fact that I have a hamster, not a guinea pig) however there's nothing like this for hamster owners, no haven for hamster crazy people so I was hoping I could get some advice here. Once again, sorry this isn't totally related. I was wondering if anybody knows whether fleece would be an okay bedding for a hamster cage? I figured hamsters and guinea pigs are roughly related so perhaps it would be okay if I used fleece in my hamster's cage? Thanks, I hope this is not against the rules. If it is I apologize and I will take it down immediately. |
