what shampoo should i use on my guin ok guys i want your appinion and advice, is baby shampoo better than the petshop shampoo. because i use that extra soft rabbit shampoo and i was wondering is that baby shampoo better, theres also different types of baby shampoo aswell that extra soft one and other types.
No, don't use baby shampoo. Use a rabbit or ferret shampoo. I use a ferret one that has aloe-vera in it so it won't dry out the skin.
Why not baby shampoo. I have used baby shampoo and it never hurt them at all. I have spoken to one of the best vet in the city for exotics and he said that is fine just as long as I dont bathe them all the time. If I do it frequently then use rabbit/ferret shampoo.

I went to petsmart and found a shampoo for guinea pigs thaTS tearless and it's made by superpet
I use either Fido's every\day variety(I don't use it every day though!)as its quite mild - labeled for dogs cats puppies kittens and all furry pets. I've found that if I go to the vets it's cheaper than the petshops. When I'm out of this one I use the shampoo that I use for my very sensitive head - from the health food shop or by mail order at golden glow (I'm pretty sure g g is australiawide)it' made by melrose and is called everyday sulphate free shampoo base(1 litre about 10$) and for my piggers with longer hair the rain water soft conditioner in the same range.
You can get rodent shampoo from the pet shop. it's usually 7 dollars when it's cheap

could I use dove soap bar to clean my piggy? I use it on myself because it doesn't dry out skin and it doesnt have alot of chemicals in it. Also it doesnt irrate skin. Could I use it on my piggy?
No, human products, in general, aren't good for guinea pigs.

Also a thing i discussed with my vet ( specialised in small and exotic animals) and he siad guineapigs don't need (a lot of) bathing. You should bathe them twice a month , or when you think they're starting to reek. Too much bathing isn't very good for a gp's skin , makes it dry and the fur would lose it's shine
Twice a month is WAY too often. Three times a year max for the typical shorthair.
Slap, Is it really too often?? I'm shocked and guilty I used to bathe mine weekly but due to increasing numbers (ie being given no longer wanted piggieshave now rotated so they probably go monthly. However some of my piggs do better skin-wise more frequently so I figured it was actually GOOD to bath them frequently. Must go apologise to them....
I think there are a few in my shed that have never been washed... mine are washed at the most about twice a year. They don't really need it I figure, they're only at my house pleasing themselves!
