You may not think there are any rescues in Australia. I didnt know such things existed anywhere in the world until after I got Toffee, my 3rd pig, and joined up here. I laughed at first, I mean there are cat and dog rescues but why have rescues for guinea pigs? The answer I figured out quickly; because guinea pigs are like any other animal and deserve the right to a second chance.
This thread will contain all of the places/sites where you can adopt pigs from in Australia. I will start off and anyone else that has any other places/sites that I may have forgotten please feel free to jump in and add to the thread.
Australian
Cavy Sanctuary in Brisbane is probably the largest rescue in Australia. Every year the amount of surrendered or rescued pigs grows, and each one of those pigs is looking for their forever home, which could be you. ACS will fly pigs interstate. There are 2 smaller ACS rescues located in Wollongong and the Gold Coast. For more information see there website

Petlink is like the equivalent of the American Craigslist, and so you have to be extremely careful that you are not adopting a pig from a breeder. I would only resort to this site if everything else had failed. Here is the link

Another place that occassionally has guinea pigs (very very very very rarely in Western Australia) is the RSPCA). The RSPCA is the tantamount of the american SPCA. To search for an animal in your state fill in the details on this site

The gumtree is very similar to Petlink. Basically you choose your captial city from the box on the left hand side, then click pets under community. You can either browse through the posts or you can do a search for guinea pigs. Again you have to be very careful that you are not buying a pig from a breeder.

Just today I found The Care Rescue located in Sydney, it takes in unwanted rabbits and guinea pigs. For more information see their site
The CARE Rescue - The Cavy and Rabbit Elite Rescue. Taking in and rehoming guinea pigs and rabbits.
Another site similar to both The gumtree and Petlink is The Trading Post, the same warnings about breeders apply.

Finally, look through the Classifieds Section in your Newspaper. The Sunday Times (I am unsure if this is just a Western Australian newspaper, but I am sure that the same thing applies for all Sunday newspapers) often have the most adds in terms of pets. Again, be sure that you are not adopting from a breeder.
It takes someone special to opt to adopt.
