Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hi everyone, I was just wondering in sydney, where do people usually buy their supplies? I have checked many places and their pellets are terrible. They are either very corned based or have lots of seeds and coloured bits. Another thing is pet stores only supply lucrene hay and no timothy hay. At the moment, i am using like yellow hay or straw. Is this okay for my guinea pigs? I can't seem to find anything good here oh i also went to dural pet store, i can't believe they put a guinea pig together with a rabbit! I'm disgusted |

I live in a totally different part of Australia and I have the same problem. You can't get Timothy Hay in this country at all. It is to do with quarantine I think... Anyway, I used to feed mine straw, scared of Lucerne hay because of the calcium, but I started Lucerne again because straw can hurt their eyes. If the Lucerne "stinks" it may be off, so better to avoid that. Lucerne should have a fresh, quite sweet smell, and taste (yes I test it first!) slightly sweet. |

You can actually buy Timothy Hay, Oxbow brand now, it's just $22 for the smallest bag, when you can buy a 30kg bale of Lucerne for around $20. That's why most people just feed them the Lucerne then try and balance out the Calcium ratio with veggies. |

I get the Timothy for about 15$ from my vet. She is also stocking Oxbow cavy cuisine also, it is about 29$ and at the feed rate of 1/8th of a cup, it works out to be about 24 cents per pig per day! |

Hello, I live in South Australia, and I'm not having as big a problem. My local Produce/Feed store supplies all my Guniea Pig supplies, and you can also order online. Hope that helps and good luck |

all the guinea pigs and rabbits we have ever kept have been fed "guinea pig and rabbit mix" from either Petbarn or Mitre 10. it has never given us trouble though. my piggies also get fresh veges, grass and lucerne every day. should i be worried?
