Wow! You must have a big bedroom to have four piggies in your room!

Are you planning on getting another boar to live with him? I certainly hope you don't have him living with 3 sows if he hasn't been neutered.

I'm pretty positive that he's not, but I'm sure he'll come back and clarify his piggy living arrangements.

Re: Where do you keep your cavies indoors or outdoors?

Just to clarify things albert, you have a boar and 3 sows, but you're not breeding them, and you're not getting the boar neutered. So the poor guy lives all alone?

Re: Where do you keep your cavies indoors or outdoors?

She comes to this conclusion because you dont feel like getting a male partner for the boar. Plus, he's not neutered and lives with three sows.
It takes an inch of common sense.

I suggest you do, or you will have alot of babies. Unless you definately are a breeder...

Re: Where do you keep your cavies indoors or outdoors?

I have a sow and 2 baby sows living in my room, I also have a boar. The babies father is not the boar. I have no intentions of putting him through an un necesary operation. He lives alongside the sow and babies (as I have said in other posts I do take in rescues) so he is not alone. I have no intentions of getting another boar because I have plenty here and this particular boar does get to see them.

Ahh, so the only interaction the poor little guy gets with his own species is through a cage wall. That's pretty sad actually.

Re: Where do you keep your cavies indoors or outdoors?

I have a living arrangement similar to albert. However I am going to have my boar neutered next month so he can have some interaction with other guinea pigs.

Even though he lives next to them its not the same as being with them. He cant do laps, popcorn, rest, nose rub, groom or exhibit behavious he would otherwise be capable of if he lived with them. Hes very limited in what he can do. Also if hes neutered he can have floor time with them.

Albert why dont you wish to have him neutered or get another boar? I know its your choice, but depriving him of being able to fully interact with other guinea pigs isnt the best thing you can do. If you dont neuter then get another boar. At least then he wil be able to exhibit every normal behaviour and can have floor time with a friend.

That is not what I said unless you are meaning that he should have interaction with the sow (maybe I could do that when she is not in season). I did say that i have other boars which he sees. Which means he does have friends and he does go and spend time with them out on the grass, he just doesnt live with them permanently.

No, he should absolutely never have direct contact with any of your sows unless you change your mind and have him neutered.

If you have other boars, why doesn't he live with them?

He is not living with the other boars because if I put him with them they would be over crowded.

Re: Where do you keep your cavies indoors or outdoors?

Hi Guys,

Albert I'm really confused...so you have one boar and three sows inside. the one boar inside gets along well with other boars ( going on what you've previously stated ) yet is housed on his own. He's not the father of the babies but one of your other boars is?

You don't want to have your boar neutered so why don't you just extend the poor guys cage so that he can have a permanent roommate to physically snuggle with and be able to be good mates and do piggy things with together with without having to talk through bars to the other guinea pigs???

It really makes no sense as to why you would keep him on his own when you've stated he gets on well with other males and when you've stated you don't want him neutered...In my eyes it's actually " teasing " him and cruel having him next to sows like that or next to any pig for that matter without him being able to make any proper contact with them...

If you have that many pigs my god why you would not give the poor boy a friend who knows? Cage size isn't a very good excuse it's very easy to extend a c&c cage or to get him a larger cage.

Jess

Firstly Enchantingcavy As I have stated before I have 1 boar, 1 sow and 2 babies living in my bedroom.

Secondly no where have I said who the father of the babies so stop jumpimg to conclusions.

Thirdly I have stated that I do take in rescues. Did you ever think that the sow may be a rescue that came here pregnant.

That was a question not an assumption hence the question mark...?

It would be an assumption for me to think that the sow was a rescue...so it's a rescue sow then? ( thats a question just so we're clear that im not assuming ).
