Guinea Pig Rescue with Lots of Amazing Piggies. Boulder, Colorado

We just started our own small rescue. The first pigs we took were all rescued from a back yard breeder. We have 3 young boars, about 5 weeks old. A 3 or 4 month old male, and two females that are pregnant. We also have a 2 year old male that was surrendered.

If you are interested in any of our pigs please check out coloradocavies.weebly.com!

Love your website! One quick thing: on your contact page, I think the e-mail is misspelled, and missing the "d" in Colorado.

Good luck with your rescue. Are both of your girls in sanctuary from the same breeder? What's the deal with the breeder? Are they dumping pregnant females?

Wildcavy: I checked and you were right! Thanks so much for pointing that out! <3

Pinky: yeah all the rescues except for Milo are from the same breeder. They were having a 'going out of business' sale and selling all guinea pigs for 5 dollars! DX Honestly if we had more space I would have taken more piggies. We rescued a pregnant teddy from them but she passed three days after we got her. ;-; The babies were a week and a half old when we got them. Izzie, the silkie is about 6 weeks now we think. I can feel bodies inside her but no kicking which worries me.

Let's hope that breeder went out of business and wasn't just getting rid of overstock. Boy, pretty sad, isn't it?

Yeah it is terrible. But they really are going out of business. They were a back yard breeder with like 20 different animals that they bred and they couldnt get the permit to keep them all. They kept getting rejected and no wonder. The place was a mess and there were way too many animals. So they were pretty much getting shut down weather they liked it or not.

The guinea pigs are beautiful so you should have no problem finding homes for them. Breeders....Grrrr.... They're lucky you took them in.

We are actually having a really hard time. In the last two weeks I have had two separate people interested in taking two of the boys and then I just never hear from them again. :/

They are so sweet! I would snatch them up in a second if they were in Texas!

Welcome to the world of rescuing! I never hear back from most people. The ones that irritate me are the ones that are no-shows for appointments.

Be prepared to keep some pigs for quite a while. Timmy was in my rescue since he was a baby in 2006. He recently had an eye removed. Now who will want to adopt a one-eyed pig?

I wouldn't mind a special needs piggy in our herd. I actually just offered to take in a blind sanctuary pig if the family can't find it a good home.

Hopefully we find some homes or else we are going to have some problems. i require an adoption application and I think that scares some people off but I'm not going to just hand out pigs to every single person who wants one if they can't provide for it.

We have two more litters coming so hopefully we find some good homes soon.

Our Grace is a one-eyed pig. Her partner, Picckalo, is blind and partially paralyzed and hard of hearing. They are incredibly happy together and Grace is actually quite the trouble-maker (she's an aby). We have to be careful of not approaching her from her blind side, like to give her veg, but other than that, she's no more trouble than the others. Picckalo takes some extra care but it's worth it.

I love special needs piggies and our next pig(s) will likely be pigs who are in a tough spot, too.

I had a one eyed rabbit before, nothing slowed him down! He was just as active and out going as my sighted rabbits.

I currently have a guinea pig that is mostly deaf and blind in one eye. He is also just as active and friendly as my other piggies, though he's always a bit slower to come for veggies, mostly because he can't hear the crinkle of the bags or the wheeking of the other pigs especially if he's sleeping. I have to wake him up! Lol
