15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas I saw 15 guinea pigs advertized in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette for $10 each. I tried to call and find out more information about them. I just got a voice mailbox. I tried to look the number up but it is a cell number and those aren't listed on anywho.com. Sound like a small time breeder? [Note from Ly: Now that the cavies are out of that home, I deleted the phone number.] Last edited by Ly&Pigs : 09-16-05 at 07:21 pm. Reason: removing phone number

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas I doubt they'd care. Ten dollars is reasonable. At least it is more than 5 and not free. It does sound like a backyard breeder.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas OK, she called me back. I didn't get to talk much because my little man, my 1-yr old, was screaming in the background. She gave me directions to her house. I'm going over there tomorrow afternoon. I asked if she had any babies. She said there were two adults guinea pigs and the female is pregnant. The others are still young. So, I'm assuming the same two have been producing the younger ones. She said they are black and brown and white. There are 7 males and 8 females. I asked her if she was getting rid of all of them and she said yes. She said her kids were upset about it but she had to get rid of them. She lives in a trailor and has to go pick up the kids from school. So, I can't imagine living in a trailor with small kids and 15 guinea pigs. What a job that must be. So, with all that in mind. What should I do. My husband is going to think I've completely lost it if I come home with 15 guinea pigs. He may be able to get over that but when I tell him I spent $150 to get them, he is really going to think I've gone off the deep end! So, are you guys up for helping me do something with them if I get them, or should I just try and save a couple of them and hope for the best for the rest? angelwise angelzeigler@yahoo.com

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas Call some of the local shelters and see if they can help out or take any of the pigs in. I bet you anything these pigs are missexed or in male/female pairs and living in very small cages. My son has taken to threatening me that if I take in anymore pigs that he is going to throw them out the door. (Like that is actually going to happen, over my dead body.) I keep reminding him that I am the parent and he is the child and that since I pay for the rent, utilities and food for he and I, plus pay for all the animal supplies, that I will do what I want and if that means taking in a couple pigs to foster, then I will do it.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas Poor pigs! You know it was back-to-back pregnancies! Oh, makes me hurt inside! Anyway, try to make a deal with her...like $60-$80 for all, then bring some to the shelter or rescue (males), and if you can, keep the females on preg watch? OR find a qualified rescue to take in some females? At least take all the females, that way they are not breed again. Oh, I wish I could help you! There are allot of wierd'o people out there! The web site: www.gpan.net. There is a listing under North america, and this lady had 23 g-pigs in here house (not a rescue), and she was saying how embarrased that she was about it. Well, hello, you have all these g-pigs and obviously can not take care of them. I would be embarrased to! Also, dont look at that web site if you are offended easily, there is a crude listing on there that has cuse words. :0)

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas That's good advise. I'll try and make a deal for all of them and if that doesn't work, I'll try to get the females. My husband is going to think I'm obsessed. I guess I am and I'll just be proving it!

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas I got them all. I gave her $100 and brought them all home with me. There is a total of 17 of them. I couldn't leave any of them. It was... sad. Now what? She told me there were 9 girls and 8 boys. Well, they are divided up with 9 in one store bought guinea cage. Yes, I said 9 in one cage. Wall to wall fur. 5 that she said were male in a small store bought pet cage. And a mom and two babies born today were in a storage tub. There was one inch of poop packed in the bottom of each cage. They were very hungry and thirsty. They have been eating every since I got them home. I think they have probably been starving for some time now because the only one that are a decent size are the two original parents. The rest are very small. I guess as soon as I get the kids to bed, I see if I can tell who is a boy and who is a girl and get them into the correct group then start building a couple larger cages to put them in. Lucky for me she told me how to tell the boys for the girls. I guess she must be an expert. Ha Ha! Wish me luck and let me know if anyone wants any guinea piggies.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas OK, Let me get them separated correctly so I know who exactly the boys are. Then I'll get some pictures taken. Oooo, there is a cammotion in the girl cage. I think I'll get their temporary quarters finished first. They are so crowded it's not good. I'm almost finished with the cavy hotel I've been building. Then the pictures.

Re: 15 Guinea Pigs advertized in Arkansas I am sooo proud of you! What an AWSOME thing you did. It makes me sad to hear that those pigs were living like that. But now, they have a great person to help them out! visit this link for pictures of "piggy prviate parts" to help you sex properly (yes, even young ones): http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm I am sure that those pigs will thank you, every mouth full of food they eat! Start calling all the shelters in your area (pig rescues), and see if they will/can help out. I would keep that ladies (the one you got the pigs from) address and phone number on hand too, just incase you need proof where all those cavies came from. Kudos to you! I have all those piggies in my thoughts! :0)
