Not Free to Good Home? No, not for sale, but free to good home again. This makes us very annoyed and we're sure there are others out there who will agree. First of all, if you can't afford to buy your Animal/Pet then you can't afford to look after it properly. All Animals/Pets are worth paying for and if you can't afford the Animal/Pet, you can't afford getting a new home or the accesories that go with it, the upkeep like it's food ect. and Vet bill. You don't get anything for nothing, so don't say "Free to good home." GOOD HOME? 9 out of 10 don't even check where they are going. If you can't afford to buy an Animal/Pet, then don't have one as you ought to pay for that love and affection a happy Animal/Pet will give you, especially if looked after properly. If you have an Animal/Pet that needs a good home make the adopters prove they want it by paying for it and for goodness sake, make sure they know how to look after it properly. Thank you in advance, Mr. & Mrs. R. Mowat.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? I agree with you, I was thinking about that issue a few days ago, and you just beat me to it. It's normal to pay for your pet and to take good care of it even if lots don't. A good owner should.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? Not paying for a pet doesn't make you a bad owner! So you just so happen to get your pet for free, so what? I understand if someone is seeking out a free pet specifically because they can't afford it then yeah, maybe they should reconsider the whole pet thing. But saying someone will be a bad owner because they got their pet for free is just silly.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? I worry that if they are not willing to pay for the pet, the new owners may be unable or unwilling to pay for all the things that come with it. If they cannot afford the pet, how will they be able to pay for the vet when it get sick? Will they be willing to buy a good quality pet food and not just grab some Hartz when they are going to the grocery store? Will they view their pet as a disposable item to discard when an unseen expense pops up with the pet? Yes, there are people who would treasure a pet, even if it is free. However the sad thing is there are some people who might not value what come free. I might consider making a pet free only if I personally know the person and think that they would make good pet parents.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? The issue really is not if it is for free or not. The real issue is how well the adopting home is screened and checked out. I DISAGREE with the idea that just because someone gets a pet for free, they will not take care of it! That is silly, and it is stereotyping. I got both of my girls for free from a lady who was trying to get rid of them fast becasue she "no longer wanted" them (come to find out one was pregnant, and I am sure she new, and wanted to get rid of them so she would not have to deal with babies). But, I took them for free, and take Excellent care of them. I have spent well over 400.00 at the vets, and they are well loved. I agree that you have to be careful what home you give them to. I would give a person a "free" pig, if they could prove to me they were a worthy home. They have to show that they are g-pig knowledgeable and have the proper cage/set-up, ect.. That is what matters more to me. If someone is going to go to the trouble to build a CC cage, have all the proper hay/food, and did their research, that shows me more then someone that just plunks down $25, and on their way. Any person could walk into a petstore and purchase a pig for $25. They "payed" for it didnt they? Will they then be guarenteed to take care of it? NO. We all know better then that. I think the home the animal is going to matters more then the cost of the pet.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? This person has posted the same exact thing on GL and CM. Either they are trying to get people riled up or something. Like said on GL, your preaching to the choir. Go post on PetsHub or somewhere where ownership isn't taken seriously.

| Re: Not Free to Good Home? Yeah, clearly trying to start something... This was the PM I recieved from that petsandbungelow person "But, paying for the Animal/Pet proves you really wanted it in a lot of peoples eyes. It is very risky that if you don't know the people then giving it to them for free, they may not care for them as much as you thought they would as they won't be willing to pay out. It's okay between good friends." Oh, brother! Should this not be in the Kitchen? Quote:

Re: Not Free to Good Home? Don't let this person bother you. They are obviously trying to rile up the members here and anywhere else they have posted. They posted a bunch of nonsense drivel if you ask me. The issue really is not if it is for free or not. The real issue is how well the adopting home is screened and checked out. Exactly! I adopted out two different pigs to two different homes and I didn't charge one dime for an adoption fee. Does that mean that because VJ didn't pay that she is gonna be a bad slave or can't afford to properly take care of Lil Ly? HA! I think VJ is an excellent slave and so is Mamaroo, the other lady that I adopted Bubba out to. Any person can pay for a pig and treat it bad or get it for free and treat it bad just as anyone can pay for a pig and give it the best environment, cage and food or do the same for a free pig. The issue doesn't lie with whether one pays for a pig or not, the issue lies with OWNER RESPONSIBILITY. Just because someone gets a pig for free doesn't mean they don't have the money to properly take care of it.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? I got an email too. The best of people would look after and find homes for Animals/Pets, but there is always the odd one. If as you say you are one of the good ones, that's great. If you need the whole email I can forward it to you.

Re: Not Free to Good Home? I got it Sabriel, thanks. I guess I am part of the elite now because I received an email from them too. I guess they don't have the guts to post replies on thier own thread. Instead they do it through pm's and emails.
