Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! I currently have a 6 sq ft cage for my boar and a ramp that adds 2 extra sq ft on top but I'm switching to coroplast and grids to accomidate the 3 piggies. My friend owns 7 pigs but they have to move to a place where to pets are allowed and I don't wan't them to get gassed and they only have 3 left and I'm going to adopt them all but I don't know where I could get some cheap stuff for the pigs that would be good for them because i have a corner in my room roughly 75'' X 41'' big that I could turn into a grid area but If anybody knows of a cheap online store that sells grids or coroplast for really really cheap then please give me a link because budget is a big thing for me (Although I do spoil my pig) and I'm only willing to spend a total of about 120-150 bucks. If anybody could give me some ideas on what I could put in the cage that your guinea pig enjoys or just extra stuff that they would like that isn't to expensive. Thanks to all who can help me out here.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! If you have a target nearby, they sell them for about $15 a box for 23 grids. That's the cheapest I have found them for. Hope this helps.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! You don't need to buy a bunch of stuff for the pigs. Use your money to buy the needed grids and coroplast, water bottles, hay, veggies and appropriate pellets. Make sure you have the sexes divided. You should have 2 water bottles in each cage. Give the pigs cardboard boxes for their hidey houses and crumpled up newspaper or small cat toys to play with. Make sure anything you give them does not have small pieces that they can chew off and swallow. Many people shop at area dollar stores and find plastic stools or small storage bins that work for pig houses too.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Hi...How exciting for you, and the piggies, too! FYI, we built a 5X2 (with a 2X2 loft) for our 4 pigs and it cost us about $55 total ($30 for the coroplast from a sign store, $12 each for 2 boxes of grids at target). As far as stuff to put in the cage....hidies are the only thing we paid money for, I think (one regular pigloo, one fabric pigloo, one large cozy cup...probably about $30 all together). We made a hidey area under the ramp by covering the ramp with towels and letting a "curtain" hang down the side. We made a hay rack with a shower caddy. The piggies toys consist of toilet paper rolls stuffed with goodies or hay, paper sacks, large oatmeal containers with the bottoms cut off, and stuff like that. Oh, we buy Choobs (vegetable paper tubes for them to crawl through and nibble on) every once in a while...they're not expensive. You should be more than fine with your budget. Good luck, and congratulations on your new herd! claypig

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Target near me had grids on clearance because they weren't the latest "color". The red ones were $4.95 for a box that makes a 4 cube shelf.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Yeah the coroplast out here is cheap, only about 14 bucks for a full sheet and they are all boars. But if anybody knows of some fun stuff that there piggies like then please tell me because all I got is a house, a loft, and a pvc pipe.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Yeah target was the cheapest for grids for me, they were on sale for $10 a box and I called around to 3-4 sign places within a 20-30 mile area and got lucky and only paid like $6-8 for abig 5-6ft piece of coroplast(so I bought 2). So my whole cage has only about $50 or so in to it. I also have 2 or 3 people that saves newspapers for me and thats what I use to cover my cage bottom (about 10-15 layers) and then in corners i have potty areas that I use pine and critter care so that saves me some money. I do carpet their loft areas with carpet from the dollar store though.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! On fun ...mine all like when I just use a piece of newspaper or two and just lay them in the bottom like tents and they run in and out from under them and play hide and seek.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Sounds like a good idea, and coming from a fellow michigander hehehe. Well how do you hold down the carpet to the cage, the newspaper idea sounds a little bad because i tried it and gets clustered together. But I think that i'll just make a 2 story cage, I'll draw a picture on good ole' paint and show everybody the blueprint when I'm done. Its going to be about a 4X3 bottom with a 2 grid high cage and the 2nd story will be 1X3 top in maybe an L-shape, I'm not sure which kind of ramp but i'll add my pvc pipe, 2 cuddle cups and a piggy tent from petsmart. Also of cource 4 water bottles, a hay rack and possibly one of those things that the piggys can jump into and lay in.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Well it turns out that the piggies were given away to the humane society but I went there and picked out one. I'll post some pics soon, I can't decide on the name.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! You would have needed at least a 2x6 or 3x4 or larger to house 4 pigs. You can make a loft for them but only the main level counts for the square footage in the cage. Upper levels and ramps do not count toward square footage. I am sorry the pigs you wanted were given to the Humane Society. Why not go to the Humane Society and adopt one or two of them.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! The planned space I saw,75'' X 41'', is 18sq ft. Plenty for all 4 boars. A 5x3 is 17sq ft so just about the entire space and definitely over the minimum. Coroplast and grids aren't the best to get online. Grids are so heavy and coroplast is large so both cost quite a bit in shipping. Unless your ordering a large amount of coroplast and don't mind taping smaller pieces together it would be best to find it locally. You can check here http://cavycages.com/where.htm for anyone that's found coroplast or grids in your area.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! Yeah my mom found a place where they sell 8X4 sheets of choroplast for only 12 bucks and the grids are only about 15 bucks for a set.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! As far as toys, I've used TP rolls cut into spirals, tissue boxes w/a door cut out for an extra hidey, and today I emptied an oatmeal box making breakfast, peeled off the label and plastic ring, cut out the bottom, and now I have a tunnel that is WAY bigger around than my piggers. They love paper bags w/veggies hidden in them and balled up paper as well. Get creative with the free toys.

Re: Adopting 3 piggies! need ideas! They also like empty soda/cola/pop boxes that fit in the refrigerator. Just cut both sides and they make excellent tunnels.
