I got my foster girls!

The SPCA has allowed me to take the 2 female piggies that could be pregnant to foster them. I have them in a lousy pet store cage at the moment (so happy I keep those things around) but this afternoon I will be building them their bigger cage.

I am scheduling them a vet appointment to find out if they really are pregnant. I'm just not completely sure. I do know that their sides feel bulgier then my non-pregnant females. I don't know if lack of exercize from a small cage would make them flab out like that or if there are babies in there.

They still need mite treatment but they look better then they first did.

I have to admit I am TERRIFIED! The thought of babies scares the pants off of me. I have seen my share of births from working with animals and vet clinics but it has been years since I have had an animal give birth in my house (other then some mice). Wish me and the girls luck.

The good news is that my vet had a cancellation this afternoon and the girls are going to the Guinea Pig OBGYN earlier then I thought I could get them in.

I just got home from work and had to check the site. YEA!!! I'm so glad you got both girls. Hopefully, neither are expecting but if they are I'm sure you'll do fine w/ them vj. I got my husband to agree to one more and I'm working on him for a max of 6 girls. I have to be really nice (which during my PMS state right now is EXTREMELY hard. *LOL*) Maybe if I tell him they won't be up here til Christmas, he'll be fine w/ it. I'm going to get to him by the end of the evening to agree. I'll go do his dishes and maybe that'll sweetin him up. Those girls are sooo adorable.

VJ-is taking care of the Pervusians (sp?) harder than the shorter hair girls? Just wondering. If you foster both, then they'll both know each other when they get here. I'm going to add a third level (4x2) and that way if they don't get along w/ my other three girls, I can have one cage on top of my existing cage. They'll have access to one part of the 2nd level (a 2x2) where I can keep their food. I'll then make the other part of the 2nd level which is also a 2x2 the other girls' kitchen area. And I'll take out the bridge. Ok I think I know where I'm going w/ this? TeeHee.

Good News. Neither appear to be preggers! The vet is pretty certain and he's a great exotics vet. It seems that their bulges are due to lack of exercize. The nice new 2x4 I built them should help take care of that. The vet also guessed them at 2 years old. That's about what I thought but the SPCA guessed them at 1.

Babette does have a skin condition along with her mites. The Vet gave me some meds to put on the irritation. She will need the meds for 2 weeks so more good news...she doesn't have to go back to the SPCA, she has to stay with me until she's all better...the vet said so!

Therefore Jenn you have 2 weeks to make certain you want her. If you want Angie P.Q. too I will have Mamy bring her to me once Babette's mites are totally gone. Then after I Quarentine Angie I can intro them and they will have nearly 2 months to become best friends. It should make intro to your herd all the easier if they already have a buddy they know.

I'm wearing him down. I did his dishes for him and he said that he'd do them next time. I said no that I would do my turn and that I want my two new piggies. (I'm such the little devil.) I now have the kids working on him too. They've decided to rename them Baby and Princess. So, I appreciate all that you're doing. I'm still trying to get my Snowball's fur back from her pregnancies as well as treating them for mites, too. So, by Christmas they all should be healthy and ready. What a GREAT Christmas!! I'll let you know for sure. (I will win!! TeeHee!!) If they don't get here until then I get take my time on expanding the cage and getting more supplies and toys. I'll make sure they have a stocking, too.

Of course, my mother thinks I should adopt some closer but I can't get a response from the lady in Decatur. She's probably busy and I'm falling in love w/ those two down there. Whoa is me?

Oh yeah, I forgot your other question about caring for peruvians.

No they aren't really harder to care for. My 2 long hairs are no problem at all. I brush them when I take them out for floor or lap time and they seem to love it. I keep their butt hair cut short (a trim lasts about a month or 2) and it's pretty easy to trim them. If they get really icky I use an electric trimmer to shace them down to about 1/2 inch. A full body shave lasts nearly 6 months.

It may sound like a lot but it's really not.

Ok because my daughter is really loving Angie's (AKA Princess) long hair. I have two short haired girls and an Abby. She'll make a great addition. I'm really excited. I feel like a little kid. My friends are going to think I'm nuts, but I can't help it. I just love my girls and they're so sweet. Snowball has started to give me kisses. I just can't say enough. I'm sooooooo glad we decided to adopt guinea pigs.

As soon as I get the green light from him (right now I'd say its yellow), you'll have to keep me posted on how everyone's doing.

I forgot to also say that I found out that the other vet at my Vet's clinic is fostering 4 other GPs frm the same dump at the SPCA. Yes, the family dumped off 9 and the 4 sickest were taken on by my vet. Isn't that GREAT!

Unfortunately I found out one of the GPs died this morning. Dr Burke was going to do a necropsy and I asked to hear the results as both the vet and I feel that all of the GPs are probably related. I would like to know if there is a genetic trait we need to watch out for or if it was due to previous poor care or undiagnosed illness.

I was out when Dr. Burke called with the results so I will be calling tomorrow to find out.

I dropped off info about C&C cages for the vet. When I was leaving Dr Burke came up to me and told me she's been on this site and loves it...good news for the GPs in their care.

Poor baby. People can be so stupid!! Just let me know if the doc finds anything genetically wrong. Of course, Babette (aka Baby) won't be bred or anything. She'll be in a palace full of women.
