| Okay, until I came to this site life was relatively uncomplicated. I had one pig in a pet store cage and life was simple. Now, I have a 3X4 C & C cage and another pig from a guinea pig rescue that I drove 2 hours each way to get. I go through oodles of Romaine, cilantro and parsley and spend a lot of time figuring out what my pigs would like to do next. I have also been scanning the newspaper classified and searching on petfinder for, I don't know what. Well, last night I was looking at the paper and I saw an ad for "3 Free Guinea pigs. 8 weeks old, all male". Oh dear. I told my husband I had to get these pigs before the snake owners did. He rolled his eyes and told me we were done with pigs. I can't save the world. So here is where you all come in. I'm north of Indianapolis. I think the pigs are in Indy. How do I save these pigs without having to keep them myself? |

| Re: Free Pigs! Get them out of there and then start looking for another home for them. If you wait, it may be too late for the little guys. |

| Re: Free Pigs! Ahhh, I want one. But I'm in Iowa and I can't get a second pig until I move into my dorm for the semester (late August). |

| Re: Free Pigs! I called the number listed to ask about the pigs. I figured I would get a feel for what kind of people they are by what they tell me about the pigs and if they ask me any questions. Then I can decide if I can suggest they find a shelter to take them or if I need to run and get them myself. My husband will kill me if I do choice #2 .. plus, I don't have the room for them. There was no answer and no machine. So I have a little more time to fret. Suggestions welcome! |

| Re: Free Pigs! There may be more but I found these 2 rescues in Indiana. If either is close enough maybe you can call them and ask them to help out/find room. | Re: Free Pigs! Maybe you can set up a pig train with them? Could be that they know of a few people between them and you to arrange transport? You pull them from the owner. Drive them a little ways to the next person and so on until they are safe. |

| Re: Free Pigs! I thoght about taking 3 females that where being given away. Then I looked some more and there was about 8 more pigs in the paper/on pet finder needing homes. I can not possible save them all. I really want to help temp-home some pigs in need. The only thing I worry about is the vet bills. I just got done spending $175 curing my pigs URI. I think, what if they all need medical help? That is the only thing that stops me from rescue (for right now anyway). If any one has any suggestions on how to deal with medical costs for rescued pigs, I sure would appreciate it! I think you could go get the pigs in the add if you have the resources, then go for it. Every pig we help find a good home, one less suffering. The sad thing about Washington State, is there are a huge amount of homeless g-pigs. All of our rescues are overflowing. I know part of the problem is contributed by the fact that almost every petstore that I see sells them. :0( I am proud of everyone on this site that makes an effort to better the life of their pet, and/or helps by rescuing or fostering! :0) ---P.s. Pls excuse any bad spelling. |

| Re: Free Pigs! Simply by contacting these people and telling them the dangers of snake owners, labs, and other things can help. Guiding them on how to adopt out guinea pigs. Here's an example of what to say: You can post messages on different sites to try to adopt the guinea pig(s) out yourself. This could take anywhere from a few days to months. Please watch out for snake owners and laboratories.
