Have a bit of an open mind Guinea Gal, the first step towards change is education. Dead Irish just might be able to get a few things changed around his Petco store. You have to remember that most pet stores go by the books on guinea pig care. The ones I visit I usually ask where they get their information from and if you read the books the store sells you can usually find they spout directions word by word.

I know whenever I was younger [you know when the internet wasn't around.... when personal computers still were in black and green... the good old days.. when books ruled the world..] and I would get a new pet I would buy a book on their care. Is that the mark of a bad pet owner? No not at all. Cared enough to buy the book didn't I? Most of those books have sections on breeding that particular animal as well. And they don't make that section sound like its the evil that time forgot.

If you want things to change start with educating the system... if you beat them up before you start with education then you are talking to deaf ears. Here you actually have someone who is in the system and can work to change things from the inside out.Now whether he/she wants to do that its up to them. They, unlike some, have the knowledge to help solve some problems.

Yeah I hate petshops probably more than anything else I can think of, but what am I going to do sit around with my thumb up my *** and wish they were all diffrent, nope I am going to actually do something to try and change it.

DeadIrishD, MAB0615 fosters guinea pigs for me and currently has 4 terrific fostre piggies. If you are interested in adopting please let us know! She is is Lowell, MA which I don't think is *to* far from you!

BTW, phlumpetta (is she on this forum?) used to work for petco or petsmart and after seeing so many horrible things happen and not being able to help or fix them, finally left and got a a job at a great store that didn't sell animals. I hope your experience is better, though I must admit I don't have a lot of hope that it will be . . .

Regardless, let us know if you are interested in adopting. Porter and Chester who are with MAB, have been awaiting a great home FOREVER!!

That's great. You are someone who is actually trying to change things instead of ranting and raving and hoping someone else does it. Just be careful. Don't try to do it all on your first day.
