I need some advice... I have one piggie and I think he might be lonely. My brother and I (we own my piggie together) would like another one, but we're worried that they will fight. Paulie (my piggie) is going to be two this year, would he fight with a baby bore? What are the intial recations of two pigs meeting each other? My parents are saying no, because they don't want little piggie babies and I told them that you would get a boy, not a girl. How can I get them to understand that Paulie needs a friend? I know it's alot of questions and thanks for helping. Last edited by Funnluvr1691 : 07-14-05 at 02:51 pm. Reason: spelling errors

Re: I need some advice... First, yes two males can get along. Second, visit cavyspirit.com for information on intorducing two males. Print out the info and give it to your parents to read. Pigs DO need company. One WILL get lonely. Or, you can have your male neutered, and then after the wait period is over after surgery, get a female. Or, you could adopt a spayed female. :0)

Re: I need some advice... Thank you Rabbitsncavyluv, I did look it over. I guess I was miss informed about males. I would love to adopt a spayed feamle, but I don't know of any rescues near my home. I live close to Cleveland, and I don't wanna go to a pound. Because everytime I do, I cry for days thinking about all those other animals (we all knows what happens after that).I think my parents might drive around a half hour from my house, but it depends. My brother and I are working on the convincing now because we said we would buy a bigger cage if they bought the piggie for us.

Re: I need some advice... True, but my dad had to work at the Cleveland Pound for a day and he said there where rabbits and hamsters, but no gps. Does any one know of adoption places in northeast Ohio?

Re: I need some advice... Ok, the link isn't working (for me). Go to www.petfinder.com and then type in your details on the left. There are about 50 guinea pigs in Ohio, but they may be really far from you. I don't know...

Re: I need some advice... No problem, hope you find something. Eek! I took a look at your profile and it said you have a fish tank for a cage?! How high are the sides and what are the measurements in feet (or inches)?

Re: I need some advice... Umm, I haven't checked it but its big (not tall). I don't have any money for a new cage now. Thats why I'm investagating the new pig and thats when I'll get a new cage but not now it's not in the family buget at the moment. We have a small fan for extra ventallion so he's fine.

Re: I need some advice... No, he's probably not fine. There could be a build up of ammonia from the urine which can cause serious problems. I would first get a new cage, and then look for a second pig.

Re: I need some advice... Why get a new pig before you get a new cage. C&C cages don't cost very much to build, typically under $40. If you have the money to get a new pig, you should have the money to build a new cage. Fish tanks are better for fish and maybe some hamsters. It doesn't matter what the size, ventilation is a big issue with guinea pigs.

Re: I need some advice... Yeah, for the health of your G-pig, I would get a cage first. You need to be a ble to properly care for the one you have. Then, get another one. :0)

Re: I need some advice... I'm only reseaching a new pig it's not for sure. The fish tank is temporary untill I can save the money. Work hasn't been good for my dad and my mom is getting her nursing degree to get us more money, but we are very low on money at the moment. We have a fan it's one of those fans thats like 12 inches by 12 inches on top of the cage. We have it positioned so it will suck any nasty smells out of the cage.

Re: I need some advice... Is the fan blowing right on your piggie? I read fans should not be right on them as they could catch an upper resp. infection. I too, do not have alot of money. I was able to buy grids at Bed Bath and Beyond. for $14.95. The ties at Home Depot for $5.00. I have lids on my cage as I have dogs and cats. Each lid cost $3.85. I thought it was going to be very hard to put together and very expensive. It wasn't either. My daughter and I put it all together one Sat. afternoon. My pigs were in my bathtub. They are so happy in the C & C cage.
