| I'm in process of creating my C&C cage. I purchased my materials from Target (cubes), Plastic Works (coroplast), and Hobby Lobby (fleece). I'm using zip ties to get it more secure and stable, which is working wonderfully(time consuming, but worth it). So anyway, I've been having trouble locating Guinea Pigs at all, is it bad to get them from a Pet Store? And what's usually a good price for cavies? Thanks for the help, this is my first post =) I'm hoping to get pictures of my cage up, I think it's just fantastic! =D Thanks, Lilo |

Yes, pet stores are bad: http://www.cavyspirit.com/petstores.htm and http://www.cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm Have you checked www.petfinder.com, www.cavyrescue.com, www.petharbor.com and www.gpan.net, also the placement forums at guinealynx.info forums. They have good care info there too. Adoption fees are usually between 20 and 30, sometimes they neuter them for you. Animal shelters generally charge less. |

I was wondering about shelters, we have Indianapolis Humane Society, they were closed when I went by today. I was there at 9am and they didn't open til 10am, . Anyhow, is that a good place to find them? I always think of just dogs and cats at a rescue, but I've never actually been to one so I don't really know =x Thanks for the help! Lilo |

| =( I've checked all those sites and there're no pigs for adoptions less than 115 miles away. What do I do now? Quote:

Some rescue groups will meet you half-way if you are a good home. I have done that with a few adopters, I have also brought pigs all the way in some cases. Depends on the circumstances . . . don't give up looking for adoptable pigs - they are out there and purchasing pigs just perpetuates the cycle of homeless pigs. |

Amy met me half way, we were almost four hours away from each other, and it was very helpful. Most rescues can arrange that. |

Slap and I adopted from the same group -- she drive 1 1/2 hours to meet us. People who run the rescues seem very committed to finding good homes for their guinea pigs. GOOD LUCK! |

Hi Lilo, I have two baby girls who are looking for their forever home, you can see their pics here: http://cavycages.com/forum/showthread.php?p=72867. They are best friends and I would love it if they could go to a new home together! I live in Lexington, KY but would probably be able to set up a railroad to Indianapolis if you would like to adopt them. They are $10 a piece. Please PM or email me if you are interested! |
