A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

I live near Glasgow in Scotland, UK. My problem is that I cannot find any breeders on the west coast of Scotland. Does anyone know any tips on finding breeders? I have already looked in the phone book & the internet. I'm open to all suggestions!

Re: A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

Do not buy from a breeder. Buy from a shelter or rescue. Look at www.petfinder.com or www.cavyrescue.com for lists of rescues are shelters in your area.

Yes, please only adopt from a cavy rescue, if at all possible. I'm not sure about Scotland, perhaps one of our UKers can help you out! Good luck.

Re: A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

Thats what I ment I'm not too good with words. The only thing is I'm looking for places in Scotland and there are only shelters/rescues in England and not here...

Ok, don't worry about it! Hmmm... I don't know of any, like I said before, but I'll keep my eye out for one.

Sorry that's not very much, but I just googles "guinea pig rescue scotland" and "cavy rescue scotland" hoping for something to come up. Good luck!

Re: A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

Thankyou very much I will rake through them thisnow Also I was thinking. I live 2 mins away from a park that has a sort of mini zoo. They have mostly common animals like donkeys, guinea-pigs, rabbit and some rare birds. It is not a petting zoo though. Put it this way, they aren't kept in very good conditions. Do you think it would be a good idea to try and get one of those piggies? They are cared for, but they live on concrete (they do have loads of hay, water and toys though) and I dont think this is fair. Opinions please!

Re: A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

If you get a cavy, please do get two! See www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for more information. I think it is a great idea to see if you can rescue a pair if the conditions they are living in aren't ideal. Print out some cavy care information to give the keeper of those animals. It'll prove your point if you are able to get a pair, and if not, it may help the animals to be housed in better conditions. Good luck, and I hope you find some cavies near you.

Re: A Little Help for Adopting in Scotland.

I got my (older) guinea pig from our local SSPCA in Stirling last year after she was found wandering along the side of a footpath by someone walking their dog. PLEASE adopt! Don't get one from a pet shop or the animal park. Thistle cavies (someone posted the link above) is based in Perth, which would probably take you about 75 mins to get there by car. http://thistlecavies.tripod.com/id12.html is a list of piggies they have up for adoption. They are readily contactable by email (I have been in touch regarding adding another two to my two when I expand my C&C cage eventually) and could give you some guidance on adopting.
