Thinking about rehoming the boys :(

So I am thinking about rehoming my boys. i love them so much but now that I have a huge cage for the girls I want to have the money and time to make it bigger, better and to make sure I can make them the happiest piggies in the world! I want to fill there cage with toys ,igloos, ect. But I cant do that when I have a whole other cage I still need to build and then I wont have the extra money to make both cages big and filled with all the stuff I wanted to fill it with to make both girls, and boys happy. I think I got in over my head now and I think I am going to go ahead and rehome my boys and keep my girls so I can spoil them with time, love, and lots of fun things for them. I plan to make there cage a lot bigger too! My cousin is a little older than me, I think she is like 20 now. And she has a male piggy, she used to have 2 but one died of old age at 8! And I know she would LOVE my boys! I know she would take care of them very good and she also have a CandC cage that is, If I can remember right 4x3 but for 4 males it will have to be bigger so I have a whole left over box of grids she can have to make it twice as big! I will make mine bigger in time, when I go get more colorplast and stuff. Anyways, Whats do you guys think on this? Please, don't be mean though. I am doing what I think is right, sorry if I didn't explain the situation well.

Re: Thinking about rehoming the boys :(

I applaud that you are considering this issue. If you cannot afford the care and maintenance of your males now that you have 4 females (right?) with two having babies on the way- it's totally understandable, don't feel bad.

If you know someone who would take good care of your boys (your cousin?), all the better- especially if she'd let you see them from time to time, that makes giving them up even less difficult.

If you've bitten off more than you can chew, there is no shame in asking for help or finding new homes for those you cannot care for with your budget or time.

I can't say it any better than Tessa Bea, above. The fact that you have someone so capable to rehome the boys to is wonderful. You know your cousin will be good to them and if you can help her out with the grids, etc. then go for it !!

Re: Thinking about rehoming the boys :(

Am I right in thinking that two of your girls are also pregnant? No doubt this will add to your concerns - quite honestly in your position I would be quite concerned about how I would cope as well!!

Don't forget that you may need a cage for the baby boys when they are separated though in addition to your current cage. Am sure you've already been mentally planning for that but I thought I'd mention it 'just in case'.

Considering rehoming when it is your guinea pigs' welfare you are putting first is a responsible thing to do even though it's never easy. If you have a great home lined up for your boys with someone who has adequate time and space for them I'd say that yes, maybe this is the best thing for you to do so that you don't end up feeling completely overwhelmed.

Re: Thinking about rehoming the boys :(

Yes, 2 of my female are pregnant, and I JUST got a new baby girl the other day.
I just feel that since I have babies on the way, I wont have time for the boys. I also want to be able to give my piggies everything to make them happy and with so many I cant. I think It would be best to re home the boys. So then I can spoil my girls like crazy and I can get them everything I want. I just want my babies happy. My cousin has tons of time for them and she has lots of money to spoil them, on top of that she lives like 5-10 minutes form me and is always home so I can come visit any time I want! It makes me sad to do it but I want both girls ans boys happy. And with just having my girls I can make sure they live the happiest lives ever! My boys will also live good lives living with my cousin! Thanks for the support guys
