Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

My vet clinic has a male PEW, smooth coat, approx 2 years old pig that's been dropped off for euthanasia because he needs to have a surgery for a tooth abscess and the owner didn't want to pay.

The clinic staff is willing to provide the surgery at a reduced cost (approximately 50% off) if anyone is willing to adopt him. I believe the euthanasia fee paid by the owner will also be applied to the cost of the surgery for a further reduction.

I have not met the pig but he is a very friendly pig who is eating and happy at present, but he has a huge face due to his abscess right now.

PM me for more information.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

If no one comes forward to adopt him, would they be willing to do the surgery and hold on to him for a while if someone sponsored him? If you can tell us how much it is, maybe a few people could contribute - I know I would!

I agree with couchon- I'm at my capacity for pigs right now, but I would be willing to sponsor a little.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Sadly, I too am at capacity for pigs, having just taken in four more on my birthday (Nov 1). If anyone would be willing to help pay anything toward the costs, that would help tremendously. The techs are willing to help with flushings, etc., and another gal that works there is willing to give him a place to stay while we find a good home for him.

Thank you all so much!

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Oh, I just realized I neglected to answer the question. The cost of surgery is estimated to be $200 at most and any help would be appreciated. PM me - I think they are going to set up a Paypal account or something similar.

The clinic is this one - Southwest Animal Hospital and I believe they have had enough interest in folks wanting to chip in that they are going to go ahead and put him on the schedule for surgery Monday!

Woohoo!

Thank you folks so much.

I am not in the area and my mom doesn't want another pig. I will see if we can donate. Happy late birthday Paula.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

The email address that's been set up for Paypal donations is:

rescueeverypig@gmail.com.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Fingers crossed Bosco does well in surgery today and recovers quickly!

After the surgery, we should know the total cost and I'll post the amount, as well as where we may be as far as donations go, at that time.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Paula, for people who aren't familiar with Paypal, you might want to include directions on how to do this -- set up your own Paypal account, etc. I'm not that familiar with it myself, and my husband isn't here for me to get the password to our Paypal account to walk through it and write directions.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Good point, thank you.

You'll go to the Paypal website - www.paypal.com, and from there the easiest way to go would be to find the tab that says "Send Money", click on it, and then enter the to and from email addresses (to - rescueeverypig@gmail.com) and (from - yours) and click on the tab that says "Personal" and select "gift" - then you'll log into paypal if you already have an account, or it will walk you through setting one up if you don't.

Thanks everybody!

PS - here's a link on how Paypal works, what it is, etc - https://personal.paypal.com/cgi-bin/...es_PayPal_work.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Hi all. I have great news. Bosco has found a forever home.

Here are pictures:

He weighs only 1 lb, 13 oz., but I know he will be putting on weight in no time in such good hands.

Thank you all so much. He really deserved a second chance.

Re: Male PEW - Portland, OR Metro Area

Hello everyone, I am a new poster but A long time lurker. I have taken Bosco into my heart and home. Sounds cheesy but it is true even my husband who wasn't really sure we needed a fourth pig is already attached.

I wanted to say THANKS. I am blessed to be able to take care of Bosco and without the help of everyone from the vet clinic to you posters here I wouldn't have had the chance.

Tina

Paula, did we get enough donations to pay for his care?

And I'm tickled to death that he's got a home!
