My quarantine is done in my bedroom. It's the best I can do.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

My original plan was to leave Tahiri, Kimi, and Leonidas where they are now and keep the new guys in my bedroom. Then I remembered I'm going to have a young yellow lab in the house soon (Thanks, sister-in-law ;P) and that my plan for that originally was to bring my current pigs into my bedroom- which I wouldn't be able to do without breaking the quarantine of the new guys. I've got some time to figure it out. Baby gate/furniture blockage or something seems most ideal at the moment.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Hope everything is well as of now. Reguarding the shampoo I know that pet stores are kind of a bad idea but pet smart sells a small animal shampoo (super pet brand) that might do in a pinch just so you can have some on hand till you get a better brand.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

So far that's all I've been able to find, ones like you suggested- "Super Pet" and other small animal shampoos. I was hoping to find an all natural alternative similar to Gorgeous Guineas.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Cute attack! Love them. They are abyssinians right? My boys are too and they look something like yours but with different coloring. I call them my baby fluff-muffs.
But why did you give them the names of the bad guys? I just realized that Rocky would be an excellent name for a boy piggie. Bullwinkle, not so much.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

I have a pechant for bad guys, my piggie in my avatar was named Mojo Jojo. There previous names were pretty lame, they were Marble, Teddy Bear, and Rockstar. Bleah.

I think they're abby longhair mixes.

And Princess Poppy- you must be a clairvoyant or something, I swear. As soon as I saw all three of them crammed into a tiny petstore cage, I couldn't leave them there. They're home with me now, very seperate from my pigs- they're staying in the box until I get their new place set up. My husband has run out to get a shower curtain and rags, and I have some dissassembling to do...

No pigtures yet, but I'll film their bath- they're pretty icky right now. I also have some on my cell that I'll transfer once the mission is accomplished. I'm off to an evening of productivity- Ta!

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Thats exactly how I felt about my alice. She was with another family, and I was pretty sure she was about half way through a back to back pregnancy (which she was) and had to have her anyway. She was in a cage about 1' by 1.5' feet with her four sons and the dad. She was gritty to the touch and that was it, I knew she was mine.

Congrats! They are too cute. I bet they won't know what to do with themselves once you get their home figured out . Have fun with them.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Heartbreaking to think of piggies crammed together like that. Mine were in a pet store cage, and worse, on cedar bedding that I believe made them itch. I saw their little faces, which seemed to hope that someone who would really care for them would take them away.
I am seriously impressed with those who take on distressed and unhealthy and pregnant animals. I'm not there yet.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Bathtime and cage building are done! I've got them in a 3x4 in the dining room, and I've moved my first three's 2x5 into my room. Boris and Snidely have been popcorning and chasing each other around in laps, I don't think they've ever had so much space. Hugo walked around a little bit, then chose a favorite hidey and settled down.

I also don't think that they've ever seen a vegetable. They seem to be overweight, the previous owner was feeding them oranges, junk pellets, and some kaytee nut treats of some sort. I'm glad that they at least had plenty of hay. The lady at the society asked me if I wanted the nuts, I told her no. I took some pellets though to mix in to the food I'll be feeding them.

I've put out parsley, cilantro, green peppers, and some cranberries. They aren't eating any of it. I'm sure they will over time, but it's heart breaking to see guinea pigs look at vegetables like they're aliens. My other piggies would chow theirs down in 5 minutes or less!

I have video of the baths, I'm working on getting it online.

Congratulations. I figured they would end up in your home tonight. Once you see them, you're kind of in for it.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

You made me laugh out loud, Peggysu. The humane society had no idea what they were doing, they have rabbits all the time but not guinea pigs... I felt very obligated.

Me too. These guys are loud though, and it'll be a whole new learning curve for me since they're all boars...

Re: From thirds to a herd?

As for the dog problem, you'll just have to see how he reacts to the pigs, if he totally ignores them then you probably won't have to worry too too much but if he's absoloutly enthrolled then you might have to quaratine them in your bedroom for a while or in the spare room. Can you fit two cages in the spare room as long as they're separate or stacked? Maybe play around with some lay outs before you bring them home and make sure you have a good idea on what you're going to do about it!

Anyways, have you seen them yet?

These guinea pigs are in quarantine and cannot be in the same room as her current pigs.

Re: From thirds to a herd?

What spare room? I live in a one bedroom apartment. My kitchen, Dining room, and Living room are pretty much one big space. I have a laundry closet, a linen closet, two clothes closets, and a pantry. So pretty much, I only can put one set of pigs in my giant room and one in my bedroom. As they're in quarantine, there is no way I'm putting them in the same room. My sister-in-law's dog will just have to be sectioned into the living room space.

The pigs are home with me now. They're wheeking and running laps and popcorning like nuts. Cute, but loud! X_x

Re: From thirds to a herd?

Sorry, I posted the last post with my cell phone and it wasn't showing up so I thought it hadn't posted.

Anyways, I thought you said you had them in the spare room right now? Your piggies that you currently have?
