Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 On October 13th I adopted 2 "female" piggies out of our local classified paper. They were housed in a tote with mom, dad, & brothers. They were the only 2 "females". I named them Molly & Margie. Last night I was loving on Margie and realized that "she" is a "he"!!! Molly is pregnant. I thought it was from her orginal home but maybe it is from her "sister". Although I have never seen Margie mounting her. I am so bummed! I love my little Margie so much! I figure Molly is due around early to mid December so I need to find him a home before that. I simply do not have the space to house both of them seperatly. I will not let him go to just anybody. If you are under 18 and/or live with your parents I will have to talk to your parents. I also want it to be someone knowledgable about the kinds of food & and care involved with owning a guinea pig. I am a new cavy mom but I have read & learned alot... you can & should too! I am willing to travel upto 1 hour from my house for rehoming. Currently I live 20 minutes outside of Charleston, WV in a small town called Sissonville (isn't on most maps). I paid $15 for each of my piggies, I will be charging this same adoption fee in an effort to keep him from being lunch for a snake. If you are inserested please let me know. I'm sorry about that! Please separate them immediately though. In case Molly isn't pregnant, you don't want her to get pregnant. Also, if she is pregnant, she can get pregnant immediately after giving birth, and this is very dangerous. In case she miscarries, you don't want her to get pregnant again. So the boar needs to be removed immediately. Since space is an issue you might want to consider stacking one cage on top of the other. If you aren't able to find a home soon, you might want to adopt out a babe male (or two) with the adult male. Guinea pigs do best in pairs and it is good to get the new owner started that way. Good luck finding a home. |

I never thought about that... after getting your message I seperated them. Although I now have him in poor housing! All my grids are currently in use with their cage. I have him in a tote right now. He has the basics but will have to have somthing better soon. I just pray that he gets adopted soon! Thanks for your advice & I will keep ya'll posted. |

Just wanted to update ya'll. Margie has been renamed to Marty for fit his gender a little better. I have seperated their 2x4 cage into two 2x2 sections. I know it is not the recommended size, but it will just have to do until I can find Marty a home. Molly is eating like a cow! I swear it doesn't matter how much food I give her she gobbles it up in no time. She is twice the size of Marty now. I am only feeding her 2-3 times a day thought because I don't want her to get too overweight. |

At least make sure you give them over the recommended amount of floor time (preferably a few hours per day). They need exercise and will become bored in a small cage. And when you say you're only feeding her 2-3 times a day, is that veggies? The pregnant mom needs unlimited hay and pellets at all times. She has to gain weight to carry her pups. |

oh yeah she ALWAYS has pellets & hay... but I only feed her veggies 2 or 3 times a day. I alternate green leaf & romaine with each other and baby carrots & green pepper with each other. She will usually have one serving of each of the four at some point during the day. Up until last week she wasn't eating veggies at all no matter haw much I tried, now she acts like she is starving no matter how much I feed her. |
