Baby pigs need GOOD homes

I have six baby pigs looking for their forever homes. I had four accidental litters from a missexed pig. They are currently three weeks old and I believe there are four boys and two girls in the bunch. (I am having them sexed AGAIN shortly) They are currently being slated for a local pet shop but I would much rather they go to PRIVATE owners directly if at all possible. I cannot travel at all so would need any prospective interested parties to come to ME which I realize is most inconvenient if anyone is interested and abit too far to come. I live in Illinois just about an hour to an hour and a half outside Chicago down south. Kankakee is the city if you are familiar at all with the area. I am hoping to find someone soon but if I cannot I am afraid the pet store is my only choice which I HATE doing as these are MY babies. If there is anyone out there who CAN and WOULD be interested, please reply as soon as possible and we can take it from there. THANK YOU

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

Why are you considering pet store at all? Is there any shelter or rescue in your area?

Only shelter we have in my immediate area takes cats ONLY. We have the pound (which as you know KILLS all animals after a certain time period) and I have just thought of trying the county Humane Society but my only visit there years ago they had ONLY cats and dogs but can't hurt to call them thank you for mentioning the rescues/shelter thing again. I might try my local Petco on adopt an animal day as well but that is where I BOUGHT the missexed pig that put me IN this current situation. I also have not checked the vets for posting any ads either so again, thank you for bringing up the rescue thing as maybe someone COULD be looking for a guinea pig sees my ad there and whala a new home for a couple babies. THANK YOU for your advice

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

Please do not take them to a pet store. They will receive horrible care there and you will not be able to evaluate adoptors. Frankly, I think that euthanasia is a kinder option than allowing them to suffer.

Place ads on Craigslist, the Guinea Pig Homes website, and in your local newspaper. Check out shelters even if they don't take pigs and see if they have any recommendations. Ask vets in your area too.

Yes the pet shop IS the last resort for me and I would try to KEEP them myself before doing that. I just contacted my local humane society and they too cannot help me here. I am going to do the newspaper thing and ASK too much money FOR anyone keeping "snakes" to want to buy them and then hopefully I will stumble across a serious person who wants a good pet not reptile fodder. Yes I don't WANT to do the pet store thing even though I bought my own from such an establishment. It is the luck of the draw yes when someone buys any animal from a pet store. These ARE my babies here I watched born and grow so I don't want to give them to a bad life or euthanise them. I will move Heaven and Earth to find them GOOD homes so rest assured, I am not going to sentence them to a life of HELL if I can prevent it. Thank you for your concern for their welfare. Wish me luck cause I am gonna NEED it

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

Please exhaust all of your possibilities before putting them in a pet store! Their well being and care depends on your decision. Ask the shelter where they take small animals since they don't take them, talk to animal control to find out if there are people they call upon to foster animals seized from hoarders, etc.

Yes since joining this site I have come to realize the plight of SO many animals out there not just pigs. I will exhaust ALL the possibilities and as I have just told someone else here, I will do whatever it takes to find GOOD homes for my brood here. It may have started with Petco's "mistake" but I do NOT want to compound it by sacrificing SIX innocent lives too. Makes me worse THAN them cause I KNOW the fate of the innocents in my care. I sure wish however there was SOME way to make pet stores more accountable for the animals in THEIR care to begin WITH. Thank you all for your concern over MY babies. It does matter that SOMEONES out there CARE enough to TRY to help those of us who end up in these situations make the BEST choices possible to NOT condemn these innocents any further. THANK YOU ALL

I'm so glad you realize how precious these animals lives are, and are taking responsibility to protect their futures as best as you can. Bless you, and good luck!

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

I dont know if you would be interested or not but there is a guinea pig rescue in Steger IL called the Critter Coral. I found them on petfinder, maybe they could help you in finding new homes for them. Mapquest said it is about a 45 minute trip from the city you mentioned.

YES thank you. I will get their information and see if they could take any babies in if I fail to find private homes for them myself. I could get someone to take me there if it is that close even though to me half an hour trips are arduous. I WILL do that if I HAVE to for my kids THANK YOU for this information

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

You could try Critter Corral in Steger, IL.

They specialize in finding homes for guinea pigs and if need be, foster homes until forever homes can be found.

I live in central IL and if need be, I can take some of the boys. I'm pretty full with the 4 boys that I have but I'd rather them be in a loving home than at a pet store.

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

I just noticed that someone had already mentioned Critter Corral. If they are only 45 minutes away, definitely try them. I'm a little over 2 hours away from Kankakee so they would probably be your best bet.

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

I want to THANK everyone here who responded to my pleas for help in re homing my baby piggies. If I fail to find homes right here in Kankakee, I am going to contact this Critter Corral for help. Heck in fact I will contact them ANYWAY to be sure they can take my babies in the event I need more help. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL. I can't express my sincerest gratitude for this site and the PEOPLE on it that CARE enough to help a total stranger in their hour of need. I can sleep tonight KNOWING I will not be doing wrong by my children. I LOVE MY PIGS each and every ONE. THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYBODY.

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

How old are they? My guinea pig recently died, and I was considering getting an older one from the pound, but I might be interested in one of your pigs. I am a few hours away from you, but my sister commutes to Naperville once a week, and stays there for a few days. I don't know how far that is from you though. What interstate is Kankakee off of?

I am so sorry for your loss and my deepest condolences go out to you. I am not sure how far away Naperville is from me but it would be kinda "traumatic" possibly traveling that far with a pig I am not sure. It might be better to save a life closer to home for you but in the event this would work, I live in Bradley, Illinois which is adjacent to Kankakee off of interstate 57 about an hour to 90 minutes south of Chicago. I have NO clue to distances or directions anywhere as I never travel farther than 10 miles in any direction from my own front door. (I have agoraphobia and leave my apartment ONLY when I have to) In any case, my heart goes out to you on your loss and whatever happens with your new pig when you get one be it mine or another, I hope it fills a place in your heart too. I know loss as the mother of three of my eight died when the babies were only two weeks old and I grieve every day for her. My adoptable babies are just barely past three weeks old now and I am separating the boys from the girls in about 24 more hours. (my sexer comes Thursday to make the final determination on the sexes of the eight rascals) As far as I know NOW, I have four boys and four girls and I plan on keeping two girls. So six are up for adoption when the sexing is made for sure and I will put pictures of them on this site. You can think more about whether you still want to see about us trying to work out an adoption (the logistics of the travel time and how we might work it out) or you can save the life of a pig closer to you. I really do not know how pigs do in travel distances. My babies are YOUNG so I will ask around and see if anyone knows any limitations to travel times/distances. THANK YOU for your interest and it is GOOD to know there IS someone out there who is in need of one of my kids LOL. I love them ALL dearly so thank you for your interest and we can figure out how or if it could work. THANK YOU
