Question Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

Does ANYONE know how pigs do in travel distance/time? Someone is interested in one of my babies and I really need to know if there IS any safe limitations on traveling with a guinea pig. I know probably an hour or two would be ok but I don't know ANYTHING about how pigs do in travel situations. THANKS for any replies cause I only want to be "safe" than sorry with adopting out any of my babies

I have taken Miley with me on a 4 hour trip a couple of times. She does OK as long as I have plenty of wet veggies and places for her to hide.

Re: Baby pigs need GOOD homes

Pigs do okay in cars. Just give them hay and wet veggies and keep them out of the sun. They'll be fine for a few hours like that. It's definitely better to spend a few hours in a car and end up in a great home.

OK I have just received confirmation that pigs CAN travel WELL so there should be NO problem with your choosing one of my babies. I will get some pictures of the little varmints LOL tomorrow during the final sexing. I have four boys and two girls at THIS time and tomorrow will see IF they remain four and two LOL. A week could have changed that ha ha but I hope NOT. I have my heart set on TWO girls (I have eight babies total) and I picked out the ones that were in the girl group LOL. So, I will post those pics hopefully tomorrow in my photo section for you to see who might suit your fancy. We will go from there then. I hope if you do choose one of my babies, he or she will give you great joy.

I have a cousin who LIVES in Naperville who gave me my ORIGINAL two girls here and maybe once I get the final sexing done here tomorrow, I will take pictures of the six little piggers here and POST them online so you can see them and decide if there is a way to work out your taking one (or two even LOL) by making some arrangements with your sis and my cousin in the pigs getting to you. Anyway, tomorrow IS the day I do the final sexing and know for SURE if I have four girls and four boys. I have two picked out for myself so I am hoping they remain GIRLS this time around I just visited the proud papa (my friend took him in after I found she was a HE) so I get to see him least a couple times a month which makes that a happy ending in the paternal side. Anyway, today was the LAST time all EIGHT of the babies spent together and it is bittersweet. Tomorrow the boys go to their temporary cage til they find new homes via private parties or getting them to Steger IL rescue center. I do hope it could work out for you to take one (or TWO LOL) cause I would LOVE to know one (or two ha ha) of my kids are in GOOD loving hands. So whatever you decide here is fine by me. I will get those baby pics online for sure tomorrow so you can least SEE what you would be getting if you decide to take anybody home with you

This is Rose from The Critter Corral. I actually have a volunteer who lives in Kankakee that could help us with transporting them if you decide to turn them over to us. You can email me through our website.

Wait...I just re-read the original post but am I missing something? "Four accidental litters from a missexed pig"? And please PLEASE correct me if I'm misunderstanding this - but...one accidental litter from a missexed pig, I can understand but...how does it get to four ACCIDENTAL litters? After one accidental litter, the mistaken sex was realized and separated. How does the accidental litter count get to FOUR?

I hope I'm just missing something here.

It took me a minute too - but I think what happened is that she had four sows and thought she had gotten a fifth, and put them all in together.

I can't wait to see pictures! I am so excited for this! I have the 9th, through the 18th off work, so that would be a perfect time to drive up there. Now I get to set back up the cage. That is so much fun!

I hope I'm just missing something here.
I had what I "thought" were SIX girls. It turned out ONE was a MALE who had impregnated four of the five females I had. I didn't know I had a MALE til I saw him actually "doing it" to the last female (who luckily did not get pregnant) and I thought something isn't "right" so I took him out of the playpen and found SHE was a HE!!!! By then (I had him barely five weeks total) the damage had been DONE. I took the word of a pet store (Petco) that the pig they sold me was a GIRL. (the other pigs came from Petsmart) Anyway, I gave the male pig to my friend who wanted two boys (she went to Petco and got another pig who LUCKILY turned out to BE male and NOT female lucky HER) so she is happy. So, four of my five "real" girls got pregnant here and I lost Biscuit here possibly due to some complications from it. Luckily her babies were two weeks old and survived. I just got back from a vet sexing visit with a VET who told me she could be sure of only ONE baby being a male. The rest were educated GUESSES she said. If a vet cannot sex a guinea pig, this is why I now believe there are so many "accidents" abounding with pigs. I am terribly sorry for ANYONE out there buying or getting a pig who isn't a full ADULT with the equipment OBVIOUS because I just paid a vet to tell me she isn't SURE about four of my eight pigs. I am so depressed here now I am unsure what to DO. I am going to contact a rescue group and I guess maybe they will have better luck than I am having sexing the pigs and finding them some loving forever homes. Sorry if my earlier emails were vague but believe me I would never have deliberately bred these animals. I only wanted six FEMALES for my herd and since pigs are apparently very very HARD to sex, I should have stuck with TWO I knew were girls. So, the damage is done and now 8 LIVES hang in the balance. Thank you for your concern but mine is just another sorry tale in the woes of guinea pig ownership.

(my 8 babies and four adult females) I am thinking of separating ALL the babies from the adults and PRAY someone can help me before the baby boys knock up the baby girls. Thank you for your good wishes cause I NEED all the luck I can get since even professional "help" seems to be failing me

I hope you read the replies here every day on this site cause I just got back from a horrible vet visit with my 8 babies. Only ONE could she say is a MALE and the other seven educated "GUESSES". I do not know what sex pig you are interested IN but far as I know, I got one definite male and 7 its anybodys guesses. So, I have yet to photo the babies here today as planned as the vet visit stressed them out severely so I am hoping to get pics soon as they settle down again. They were stressed out TWICE here as I had a "friend" who says he can sex pigs come over for the second time and re sex them and HE could only tell the ONE is a definite male!!!! So, I have to contact the Critter Corral people SOON to come take the pigs to their rescue organization before ANY more damage happens from yet more miss sexed pigs I do have the one MALE according to the vet and my friend so IF that is what you are interested IN, I can hold him here for you if you are willing to take that risk. I will get pictures SOON very soon so you can see them ALL but I need to get that rescue site here to me SOON as possible to avoid any more "accidents". So, I will get back to you shortly here when I find out what this rescue organization can do. Maybe they can properly sex them so we will KNOW for sure what I got here and then we can go from there. I too want to keep TWO babies but I want GIRLS and I don't need any more accidents so I got to be sure for MY peace of mind too. Thank you for your interest in the babies and I HOPE too we can get this all settled and worked out SOON. Not knowing is killing me and could be disasterous again. THANK YOU and keep in touch here til we KNOW what is going ON
