Neutral : -1 (+0/-1) I'm getting two guinea pigs. One is a month old or so. We could not find another breeder around us so we must get a couple month old or even a year old piggie. Will this be a problem? Will there be territorial problems or dominace issues? I really want this to be a healthy enviroment for my piggers. Help? |

Please don't go to a breeder. There are so many wonderful pigs in shelters - please don't support a breeder while they face euthanasia. And are you getting males or females? Generally age gaps like that don't cause problems. |

If you post your location, we can help you find a pair of guinea pigs to adopt from a rescue or a shelter. Rescues are typically very experienced at pairing guinea pigs, and they often have babies available for adoption if that's what you really want. You can get wonderful pigs from rescues, and they are very much in need of homes. |

I hope that you will consider adopting from a shelter or rescue first, breeding isn't good for guinea pigs and it doesn't help with the animal overpopulation problem- buying from a pet shop is just as bad. It's in our hands to break this cycle, by choosing to adopt. There are many guinea pigs already who need loving homes. I adopted my three pigs, one is a year old, the other almost 4, and the oldest is 4 or 5. They get along just fine. |
