Question Not sure if i should add another piggy

I have had my two girls for about 3 months got them as a pair, Fuzzie is about 6 months and Bedhead 7 months. I love them so much and have been thinking and wanting to add a third female to the group. However i'm not sure if i should do this soon or wait till my girls are older? And if it is ok to try to add a third do you think i should get an older pig or one younger than my girls? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!

I would say younger than your girls, and I personally have boars and the oldest and the youngest get along great, it's the oldest and middle child that are bickering! It's unnerving!!

Also, I'm sure others would suggest you do a "foster" type thing with a local rescue near you, that will help you place a pig with your pigs, so as if it doesn't work out, you have options.

Also, how big is your cage, does it meet the mimimum requirements for 3 pigs?

Right now their cage is a cc 2x4 lower 2x1 upper level. I would expand it if i get a third after her quarantine.

Yep, then sounds like it's plenty big enough, especially if you are planning on expanding to maybe a 2 X 5, or 3 X 4? I have my three boars in the 3 X 4 bottom, with a big U shaped loft on top, top levels don't count though.

Good luck, I hope you find a rescue near you, that you can work with getting one. Also, craigslist is a good place to find piggies that need new homes, usually parents who have bought them for thier kids and aren't taking care of them, living in a small petstore cage too! So look there, and petfinder.com has listings of rescues too.

Re: Not sure if i should add another piggy

I think it is better to get an older pig. Like 2 years old or more. If you add a young pig now, she might cause trouble when she hits puberty. It also depends on your pigs personalities. A rescue should be able to help match your current pigs to a new pig.
