In Brooklyn, NYC

Recently rescued unrelated abysinnian male and female piggies for adoption. The female is approx year old and is bullying two other females. Similar issue with the male as he is bullying the other male who is extremely submissive. Do not have room to have separate cages for all of them. Please let me know if you are interested. thanks

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

I have another pig that someone found in the park that needs a home. I am upto 6 pigs now. Three boys and three girls. One of the girls looks very pregnant. I cannot keep all these pigs and need a home for them as soon as possible. Anyone in NYC or surrounding area is interested, please let me know. I am going to keep two girls. All three boys can be adopted - one is extremely submissive and two are very aggressive. The abby girl thats pregnant, she can be adopted once she has the babies unless you are experienced with a guinea pigs.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

I can understand. I actually called around for vets that neuter boars. It can be anywhere from 210 to 350 per boar. I know its not safe to have them go through surgery but if it was cheaper, I would have all three boys neutered and then have a big space for them to run around. I just dont have the room or time to maintain multiple cages, specially with some babies on the way.

As for the pregnant piggie, I have no idea what the father looked like so it will be interesting. As much as I am against breeding pets, I am excited and curious to have babies for the first time. All my animals are neutered or spayed as soon as it is allowable.

Good luck with your boys.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

I'm not sure why you're considering neutering the males. Neutering does not change behavior or have health benefits in guinea pigs. And you cannot keep multiple males (even if they are neutered) in with females.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

Hi I don't know if you would consider traveling to have your boars taken care of , but if you would you can have then done for about $55.00 each in Milford, Pa 18337. I know this cause it is my vet that does it.I hope this will help. It sounded like he was looking to keep the males together not everyone together.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

I considered neutering so I can put them together with the females. I was not aware that you cannot put multiple males with multiple females. In any case, neutering would guarantee no unwanted babies and they can all have floor time together.

Milford is way too far for me to travel. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

Males fight when there are females present, even during floor time. It is not a good idea to put any pigs together just for floor time. Pigs who live together can have floor time together, but you can't just put new pigs together without a proper introduction.

That said, males who are not living with females often get along quite well with each other.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

They are familiar with each other as they are in a large but divided c&c cage. I have not had any problems but if this is not advisable, I wont put them together.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

There is a huge difference between being in a divided cage and being together. It doesn't make sense to neuter in this case anyway, so just give them floor time separately. Good luck finding homes for them!

Thank you!

I sent you a private message. You do not have any information about yourself posted - your location, guinea pig experience, current guinea pigs, etc

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

If you can't handle that many pigs, I know there is some rescues here in NJ and probably one in NYC. Maybe I could pull some strings and possibly take a female or even all three. Its going to take some serious conversations with the family and I'll let you know tomorrow.

Re: In Brooklyn, NYC

At the moment, I am ok. My dogwalker just built some huge shelving system that weighs a ton for the piggies. There are three levels and each is split in two. I will try again with posting photos. I have there extra wire cube systems that I got at a garage sale that I am no longer going to need - each set has 23 grids. I got each set at $10. If anyone is interested.
